Did you know that some exercises and exercise machines are not as good for you as you think? Some are less effective than people realize, while others can even be dangerous. Here are three exercises you may want to stop doing.

Ab Machines

You may find the ab machines more comfortable than simply doing crunches and sit-ups, but they are simply not as effective. You’ll need to work harder if you want to see true results, and your lower abs won’t work at all. One of the best replacements are planks that are safe and very effective for toning the ab muscles.

The Elliptical

Many people gravitate toward ellipticals because they are easy to use, but they don’t offer a large range of motion. It’s much better to use a rowing machine that engages many different muscles.

Superman

Superman is an exercise that puts a lot of pressure on your lower back so it may not be the best way to engage the back and core. You can try the bird-dog yoga pose instead as it strengthens the same muscles. Other great alternatives include deadlifts and floor bridges.

When you first start getting active, workouts can seem challenging and overwhelming. Over time, many people start loving the activity as it helps improve mood and has many other benefits. Then one bad day comes and brings stress because you think that suddenly you don’t enjoy your workout anymore. The truth is that probably nothing has changed, you just had one bad workout. Here’s how to get over it and get back on track.

Long Walk

Nothing can help you gather your thoughts and unwind like a long walk can. If you’ve just finished a bad workout and are starting to doubt everything about it, a simple walk may be all you need to recover physically and mentally.

Yoga

Yoga gives you certain benefits you can’t get from other workouts. Clear your mind by focusing on the positions, breathing, and stretching your body, and you’ll soon be over whatever it was about working out that made you feel bad.

Don’t Give Up

You may be tempted, but don’t give up on an activity just because of one or two bad sessions. Take your time and keep going!
