With all things ‘90s making a comeback, skateboards are on trend again. Back in the day, the activity was associated with punks and rebels, but skateboarding has done a 180-flip and was even a competitive event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Granted, not all of us are going to be board-wielding athletes, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn a few tricks. One of the best things about skateboarding is that it’s open to all ages—if you can stand, you can skate!

The key to skating smoothly is the ability to alter your movement in rhythm with the board. As a result, it’s a fantastic way to practice hand, eye, leg, and foot coordination. It also trains the brain on how to think fast and make quick decisions.

It may seem simple to just stand on a skateboard and zoom down the street, but there are actually loads of muscles that are being used. Maintaining correct balance while on the board requires the use of muscles in the core, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves.

Not only does skateboarding benefit your physical health, but it’s also wonderful for your mental health, too. The activity teaches perseverance, patience, and how to overcome the fear of pain, and is an excellent stress reliever.
