Between November and April, you may as well rename us Sahara because that’s how dry winter makes us. The colder months tend to leave our hair and skin dehydrated, and even our eyes become affected by the lack of moisture. If your peepers are feeling more parched than anything, try these methods for some relief.

Humidifier

While wind and cold can irritate your eyes outside, indoor heating systems can also leave them feeling scratchy. Heaters tend to suck the moisture out of the air, so restore some by using a humidifier. These devices can also make it easier to breathe if the air itself is feeling too dry. Just remember to clean your humidifier regularly so as to avoid attracting bacteria.

Warm Compress

If your eyes have had a particularly rough day, give them some TLC with a warm compress. Simply soak a washcloth in warm water and hold it over your eyes for 10 minutes. The warm pressure should help soothe the discomfort and reduce any redness.

Omega-3

What we put into our body can be just as helpful as what we do to it. It’s a good idea to add some omega-3 fatty acids to your diet, particularly in winter. The oils will make your eyes feel more lubricated and less red, so stock up on salmon, chia seeds, and walnuts.
