]]>The 32-year-old has managed to break a dozen records in the music industry, but at the end of the day, he is just human like the rest of us. And like the rest of us, Sheeran has struggled with his mental health.
Sheeran’s forthcoming album is largely inspired by his state of mind while writing it.
At the time, the “Castle on the Hill” singer found out that his pregnant wife had a tumor, he was mourning the death of his best friend, and he was facing a plagiarism lawsuit over his song “Shape of You”.
Describing his mental state at the time, the Grammy winner said, “I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air.”
As for how he coped during the tough period?
“Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings,” Sheeran said about the new album Subtract which is out May 5. “I wrote without thought of what the songs would be, I just wrote whatever tumbled out. And in just over a week, I replaced a decade’s worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts.”
