Fast food and healthy eating are rarely used in the same sentence, but 1 in 3 Americans eat fast food daily. Did you know that you can still eat at fast-food restaurants while leading a healthy lifestyle? It’s all about the choices you make and believe us when we say, a salad isn’t always the best option. Here are five tips to follow when you order at fast-food restaurants.

Avoid Temptations

When you’re hungry, you’re likely to make impulsive food choices. When looking at the menu, avoid items described as crispy, deluxe, or double and instead choose options that are grilled.

Skip Salads

Do you need more reasons not to eat salads? Many of them at fast food restaurants are loaded with cheese, croutons, fried noodles, and bacon.

Pay Attention to Toppings

Mayo, barbecue sauce, honey mustard, and ranch dressing are loaded with calories, sugar, fat, and sodium. Ask for the sauces on the side and use garnishes like onions, salsa, mustard, tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, and peppers instead.

Avoid Sodas

All sodas, even diet, should be avoided. Order seltzer, plain water, unsweetened ice tea, orange juice, or milk.

Pace Yourself

The brain takes 20 minutes to register feelings of fullness, so eat slowly and don’t gobble down your food.
