We all tend to change our approach to fitness in different stages of our lives, and Hollywood’s biggest stars are no different. Tom Holland discussed his approach to fitness and nutrition in a recent cover story for Men’s Health and explained how his outlook changed over the years.

Fitness has been an essential part of Holland’s acting process since he landed his first major role in Billy Elliot the Musical at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre. He spent two years practicing ballet, tap dancing, and acrobatics before he was finally ready to take the stage, and the extensive preparation process remained a major part of many of his later roles.

Training with Duffy Gaver for the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home was definitely his biggest challenge, and his “monster workout” involved getting up at 5 a.m. ahead of a 12-hour workday.

“We got into crazy shape. We were so fit. A Monday morning would be this hour-long workout: one pullup, two dips, three pushups, four sit-ups, five squats – that’s round one – and you basically go all the way up to 10, so the last round is 10, 20, 30, 40, 50. And then you’ll go all the way back down to 1,” he told Men’s Health.

Holland also dropped some hints about his diet, revealing he usually eats just one home-cooked meal a day, adding it’s a challenge to make a shift to “Spartan meals” when he’s trying to bulk of up for roles.
