Whether you have pain from sitting all day at your desk or you’ve done a strenuous workout, a stiff back can be very annoying. To help ease your back pain you just need just one tool—the foam roller. This will help massage your back like no other and give you relief from the pain you are feeling. Lying on the foam roller for five minutes a day, and opening your chest can really help to reverse the effects of being hunched over your desk.

Here are three exercises you can do with the foam roller for your back.

Thoracic Spine Roll

Place the roller under your shoulder blades, with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Support your head with your hands and engage the abs, move the spine slowly up and down the roller whilst focusing on your breath. If you feel a point that needs more pressure, stay there for a little longer and breathe through the sensation.

Glute Roll

The glute roll can give you more range of motion and alleviate any lower back pain or tension in your hips. You want to place the roller underneath the lower back, just on top of the glutes, with the knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Move slowly up and down or side to side past the glutes, holding at points you feel more pain.

Side Roll

The side of your body also needs to be rolled over to alleviate pain in the back. Place the foam roller under the right side of your torso, placing the right elbow on the ground and the left hand on top of the roller for support. The right leg is straight and the left leg is bent with the foot on the floor. Roll up and down the torso, from the hips to under the arms.

Pushing yourself hard at the gym usually comes to haunt you in the form of muscle pain. The road to recovery is longer than any of us would like, but essential oils can get you there in the blink of an eye. Here are three that will help ease muscle pain, tension, and swelling.

Lavender Oil

Lavender is one of the most calming herbs out there and it will do wonders with your muscle pain. In addition to having anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, it can also ease swelling and improve blood circulation. You can rub it in directly or add a couple of drops into your bathtub after a workout.

LAVENDER!!!! Gentle, soft, comforting, relaxing, and all about making us at home. This is the Swiss Army knife of oils, good for anything! . For centuries lavender has been used for sleep. It has been put into pillows and mattresses, wrapped up with clothes, added to handkerchiefs (hello, diffuser) and used in aromatherapy for relaxation. It has been added to all kinds of tonics and potions for skin and smelling salts for fragile ladies whose corsets were tied a little too tight. . Unfortunately, over the years, many "lavender" scented items became filled with synthetics and fillers which actually irritated our airways and lost all of their benefits. People even started giving lavender a bad reputation as being unsafe because of all the synthetic, chemical-laden products that had been used bearing its name. There is more lavender oil sold than grown in the world which doesn't really add up right. But, hooray!, Young Living began growing and distilling its own lavender to ensure a high quality oil, making sure that we had the real thing again. . Today we use our Young Living Lavender Oil in many similar ways. In our lotions, bath products, sleep roll-ons, diffusers, and on our precious babies. It is a gentle oil with a calming effect on everything from our respiratory systems, to our skin, to our emotions. . . Application: . . – Add to diffuser for calming and sleep – Apply to palms and inhale deeply when upset or tense – Add to skincare recipes or directly to soothe skin – Apply to sinus areas to soothe the respiratory system, especially with seasonal changes – Rub on tiny feet for comfort – Drop under the tongue or add a drop to food or drink for immediate calming of the respiratory system. Why do you love lavender?

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is a great option for reducing muscle pain thanks to its cooling effect. It will soothe your sore and tired muscles while reducing pain, pressure, and tension at the same time. In addition to decreasing muscle spasms, it can also help you work the pain of a headache away.

Rosemary Oil

If you’re looking for an essential oil that will help you get rid of inflammation, rosemary is the way to go. It contains an anti-inflammatory agent carnosol, which also has an anti-carcinogenic effect.
