Core Strength

Before they give paddleboarding a go, some people believe they have decent core strength. Then they experience the challenge of keeping themselves upright on the board, whilst paddling through the water. This seemingly relaxing water sport takes some serious balance, coordination, and core strength. It’s a good idea to start on your knees, which is easier and requires less balance. Stand up when you’re feeling brave and accept that you might go head-first into the water the first couple of times.

Water Quality

The dream of every paddleboarder is to make it out to the ocean, to slice through the waves as you travel along the shore. Whilst some make it look easy, maintaining balance and paddling ability in the sea is very hard. The waves add an element of surprise, and you have to be ready to adjust your paddle strokes and body weight at any moment. Start out on more serene waters, a canal or still lake are good options. Stand up paddleboarding is a great summer activity originally from Hawaii. If you are spending your holiday near a lake, sea, or ocean, you must try paddleboarding. It gives you a unique vantage point for viewing what’s down under the water and out on the horizon. These are the gears you will be needing.

Stand Up Paddleboard

Before you buy your board, you should first test if you like it. So for the first couple of times, rent gear or borrow from a friend. Then, if you think it’s an activity for you and want to do more, buy your own.

Paddle

The paddle for stand up paddleboarding is similar to a canoe paddle, only it’s stretched out and has a tear-drop-shaped blade that angles forward for maximum paddling efficiency.

Life Jacket

If you are brave enough and you want to explore the ocean outside the surf or swimming area, you must have a life jacket.

Safety Whistle and Light

Another thing you must carry with you. You can’t get on the water without a safety whistle. And if you expect to be on the water after sunset, be sure to bring a light with you.

Leash

It’s used to keep your board close by if you fall off.
