People who are truly committed to their fitness routine avoid skipping a day at the gym, because they fear it would jeopardize their progress. They show up even when it feels like they’re falling apart, instead of giving their body time for recovery. If you’re constantly pushing yourself too hard, here are a few situations in which skipping the gym is totally fine.

Lack of sleep

Sleep-deprived exercisers often use their sweat sessions to boost their energy levels, but this is actually hurting their progress. They’re more exposed to injuries and have a difficult time concentering on the task ahead. If you catch yourself doing this on regular basis, remember it’s ok to skip a gym once in a while and get some rest.

Dealing with injuries

Giving your body enough time to properly heal should be your main priority. Skipping this step and putting even more strain on your injuries usually means they’ll need more time to heal.

Under the weather

Being sick is a great excuse to skip a workout, but it’s also a legit one. Sniffling, sneezing, and coughing followed with high fever are never good signs. Get some rest or go to the doctor instead of putting more stress on your body.

Feeling sore

If your body is aching from head to toe because you pushed yourself too hard, the best thing to do is take a recovery day. Don’t punish yourself by hitting the gym again and making things even worse.

Major hangover

You won’t be able to sweat out all the toxins from your body after a heavy night of drinking. Working out during a hangover shows commitment, but it will actually only hurt your progress in the long run.
