Skipping meals every once in a while seems like the easiest way to keep your body in shape. It’s a crime we’re all guilty of, but we shouldn’t trick ourselves into thinking it’s a healthy habit. If you start doing it on regular basis, it can have many damaging side-effects you should keep in mind.

Meal skipping can affect your weight in a very tricky and unexpected way. Most people who do it on purpose, hope for a positive body transformation, but the complete opposite usually happens. Skipping meals interferes with your metabolism, and the weight you lose in the short run usually comes back as belly fat.

Denying your body the appropriate amount of food can lead to overeating later on. Running low on nutrients makes you crave them more, and by the time you finally have a meal it probably won’t be a healthy one. You’ll end up binge eating, and that won’t do you any good.

Skipping meals can also have negative effects on your mental health. It can impair your concentration and lead to mood swings and stress. As your body weakens, your brain isn’t able to function actively and you tend to lose your focus. Starving yourself will also cause low blood sugar levels in your body, making you really moody and easily annoyed.
