Catching a cold is awful. Catching a cold in summer feels even worse. Our bodies kind of understand us feeling under the weather when temperatures drop and everyone around us has a sniffly nose, but sneezing and coughing when the sun’s out and people are hanging by the pool? Cue our brains short-circuiting!

Sadly, the dreaded cold virus can strike at any time of the year. If you find yourself dealing with the sniffles this summer, here’s what you can do to help.

Drink Up

It’s a well-known thing to stay hydrated during the summer, but when you’re sick it’s even more important. Drink plenty of fluids like water, herbal tea, and clear broths, to stay hydrated and help thin out mucus secretions. You can even stick a colorful umbrella in it if it’ll make you feel a little better.

Spray Away

Using saline nasal sprays can help relieve the nasty congestion that makes your head feel like a waste paper basket that is just too full. The sprays also moisturize your nasal passages, which should help with ACs that dry out the air.

Take it Easy

Yes, we know, your friends are going to the beach and you want to join them. We get it. But resting is the best thing you can do for your body when it isn’t at its best. Take a couple of days to relax at home and recover. The beach will still be there once you’re all better.
