Staying motivated to hit the gym almost every day doesn’t come easy, but there are many methods you can use to shift your mindset. According to a new study, mindfulness is one of the very best motivational tools out there and it can help you stay committed and look forward to your workout sessions.

The study was published by the journal Mental Health and Physical Activity, and it was conducted on 109 participants from England. They were asked to follow a daily mindfulness program with an app or use an activity monitor and try to reach a daily step goal of 8,000 over the course of 30 days.

Both groups were more active than before the study started by the time it was over, but the group using the mindfulness app actually recorded more hours of moderate exercise per week. They also felt more determined to keep working out and seemed to be more engaged in exercise.

Masha Remskar, PhD and lead study author and researcher at the University of Bath, discussed the results with Women’s Health and shared her thoughts on exercising mindfully.

“We think mindfulness training might actually help equip people with the psychological skills we might need in order to build an exercise habit. But we think it’s actually that effortful training through mindfulness that might help people build the psychological resilience to be able to tolerate some discomfort better,” Remskar explained.

If you are looking to build your lower body strength, the goblet squat is a great exercise for achieving that goal. It can serve as a great alternative to a back squat while also being suitable for all fitness levels.

Continue reading to find out how to do goblet squat properly and its benefits.

Step-by-Step Guide to Goblet Squat

To start off, pick up a kettlebell or a dumbbell. Start with a lightweight one and then work your way up as you get more comfortable with the exercise. Then, do the following:

1. Hold the kettlebell on the sides of the handle near the base and move it close to your chest. If you are using a dumbbell, pick it up vertically while keeping your hands below the weight.

2. Position your feet slightly outside your hip width while keeping your toes pointed straight. You can make some tweaks with a wider stance or by pointing the toes slightly outward to find the most comfortable position.

3. While looking straight ahead and keeping your torso upright, sit your hips back and start bending your knees to squat.

4. Return to the starting position when your hips get in line with your knees or your elbows touch them.

Benefits of Goblet Squat

The goblet squat is credited for improving lower body strength and improving mobility and posture. It also activates multiple muscle groups and can be a functional warm-up exercise.

Eco-friendly activewear has experienced a true boom in recent years, and Under Armour is the latest major brand to embrace this trend. They joined forces with Unless for a “regenerative” sportswear collection, crafted with zero-plastic, plant-based materials.

Unless is an eco-friendly apparel and footwear brand, known for making products from natural materials that can be worn and safely returned to nature. They’re on the forefronts of transformative shift in the sportswear after joining forces with Under Armour to launch their debut line of regenerative activewear.

According to Under Armour’s brand president Eric Liedtke, this partnership represents an important step in making a shift from relying heavily on plastics to using eco-friendly materials that can be safely returned to the environment.

“By using only plant-based materials; this regenerative sportswear collection is designed to decompose rather than pollute – representing a revolutionary advancement in reimagining the future of product creation in our industry, with an innovative commitment that honors both athletes and the planet,” said Liedtke in a statement.

Under Armour’s partnership with Unless first saw the light of day at the Milan Design Week, where visitors got to explore it through a tactile, immersive experience. It includes hoodies, t-shirts, and shorts, ranging in price between $30 and $160, which will be available exclusively at the Under Armour Baltimore Brand House at the end of April.

Girlfriend Collective grew into one of the leading eco-friendly activewear brands in recent years, setting the stage for a new era of sustainable fitness apparel. They pride themselves on producing quality workout clothes without harming the Earth, but have you ever wondered what their activewear is made of?

Girlfriend Collective’s activewear is famously made from recycled water bottles and other materials that would otherwise clog landfills and pollute the Earth, including fishing nets, fabric scraps, and other waste.

“It all starts with post-consumer water bottles that have their labels removed, are crushed into billions of minuscule chips, and then washed until they’re sparkling clean… You get a soft, recycled yarn that eliminates the need for petroleum and diverts water bottles from landfills at the same time,” reads the brand’s official website.

There’s a “sustainability report” attached to each product on Girlfriend Collective’s website, which lists all the recycled materials used to make them. They’re made in various facilities across the globe, but the company’s primary recycling partner is located in Taiwan, while their core sewing partner hails from Vietnam.

Girlfriend Collective’s recycled polyester is BPA-free and they use eco-friendly dyes to color the fabric. They recommend washing your new leggings separately or with similar colors because colors may run at first, due to their unique dyeing process.

Spring is the perfect season to try some new outdoor activities, and rollerblading is definitely one of the best possible options. There’s no better time than spring to lace up your rollerblades and hit the pavement, and here’s how this fun activity can help you spring into fitness this season.

Pleasant Weather

Spring is the perfect season for outdoor exercise because the weather is mild enough to enjoy all sorts of different activities, including rollerblading. Spring brings clearer and drier surfaces than winter and fall, and you won’t have to deal with the intense heat that summer usually brings along.

Great Outdoors

Rollerblading is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors and take your workouts outside. You’ll get to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine during your workouts and surround yourself by nature at every turn.

Doing Something Fun

Rollerblading can also help you switch up your fitness routine, especially if the workouts you’ve been doing during winter are starting to feel stale. If you’re longing for a change, rollerblading is a great way to infuse your workout routine with a little bit of fun. It’s a full-body workout that feels more entertaining than most gym workouts, especially if you invite a buddy to tag along.

Planks and push-ups are two of the most popular core exercises with a long list of benefits, and they have a lot of things in common. If you’re not sure which one you’d rather include in your fitness routine, here are three factors worth taking into consideration.

Endurance vs. Movement

Planks are a great endurance exercise because you have to keep your body steady while doing them. In addition to helping you increase your endurance, they’re also great for building core strength and improving your balance. Push-ups involve more movement, helping you activate your muscles, while also increasing upper body strength and improving your posture.

Fitness Level

Your fitness level can help you determine if planks or push-ups are a better choice for you. You’ll most likely master both exercises in time, but planks are generally a better pick for beginners. Push-ups require a higher level of core strength, and you’ll have a much easier time doing them after mastering planks.

Personal Preference

At the end of the day, the choice between doing planks or push-ups comes down to a personal preference. Both exercises can help you take your fitness routine to new heights, and it’s up to you to decide which one you’d rather do based on how you feel about them and where you are in your fitness journey.

Tennis is an amazing sport with a long list of benefits, but playing it doesn’t always come cheap. From buying professional equipment to paying for pricy court fees, expenses can quickly pile up. Luckily, there are ways to keep your expenses on a budget-friendly side—and these three are a good place to start.

Second-Hand Equipment

If tennis isn’t your go-to fitness routine, and you’re just starting out, there’s no need to invest a fortune in new equipment. You can look for second-hand rackets, shoes, and more at local thrift stores and online marketplaces before you’re ready to buy brand-new equipment of better quality.

Cheap Courts

Court fees are definitely the biggest expense of tennis, so try looking for free courts in your local area, even the ones that weren’t built specifically for tennis. Since free outdoor courts can have their challenges, you can always search for budget-friendly recreation centers with tennis courts and share expenses with your friends.

No Private Lessons

If you see tennis as a fun hobby and don’t intend to go pro, there’s no need for private lessons. They’re extremely overpriced, so try to learn the basics by watching some instructional videos online, and your skills will improve as you go along.

Any type of intense workout or straining physical activity comes with sore muscles. This feeling is completely normal and a way your body is telling you that your muscles are healing. Getting proper rest is the most efficient solution for sore muscle recovery. However, if you want to speed up the process, you might consider turning to these foods and drinks.

Salmon and Other Fatty Fish

Salmon and other fatty fish like bluefin tuna are high in protein, which does wonders in sore muscle recovery. It helps repair the damage in strained muscles while also reducing inflammation. On top of that, fatty fish is rich in omega-3 fats, which help prevent delayed-onset muscle soreness.

Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese gets the nod for the same reason as fatty fish. It is loaded with protein and a great source of calcium.

Spinach

Spinach is incredibly rich in nutrients including vitamins (A, C, and K) and minerals (iron, magnesium, and potassium) while also packing flavonoids and anti-oxidants. All of these nutrients work together to ease muscle soreness while also aiding their growth.

Chocolate Milk

Chocolate milk isn’t just for children. It will hydrate your body while also providing it with electrolytes, protein, carbs, and fat. It is recommended to drink a glass of chocolate milk within an hour of finishing your workout for optimal results.

Tart Cherry Juice

Tart cherry juice is becoming increasingly popular among fitness enthusiasts and for a good reason. Multiple studies showed that its anti-inflammatory properties, provided by a high content of polyphenols, help muscle recovery and ease the feeling of soreness.

A chest press is one of those machines you can find at pretty much every gym, and it became a staple of strength training over the years. If you still haven’t included it in your workout routine, now’s the time because it comes with a long list of benefits that can help you build muscle and improve your fitness level.

Different Muscle Groups

One of the best things about a chest press is that it does a great job targeting multiple muscle groups at once. It can help you build good muscle tissue and strength by targeting the pectoralis major and minor (chest muscles), anterior deltoids (front of the shoulders), and triceps (back of the upper arm).

Upper Body Strength

A chest press is one of the best gym machines for developing upper body strength. Since it targets the chest, shoulders, and triceps at the same time, it will help you strengthen your upper-body muscles, which will come in handy with other strength training exercises.

Helps with Other Activities

Developing stronger chest muscles and good pushing strength will help you get better in other sports and everyday activities, such as swimming, tennis, and baseball. Building muscle mass by using a chest press can also help you boost your metabolism and burn more calories even while resting.

Vitamin D deficiency can have a negative impact on your bone health, and it’s important to avoid it at all costs. Most people rely on supplements to increase their vitamin D levels, especially during colder seasons, but there are many natural ways to up your vitamin D intake, starting with these three.

Sun Exposure

Vitamin D is often referred to as “the sunshine vitamin” because the body creates it when the skin is directly exposed to the sun. Even though overexposure to the sun isn’t recommended because it can lead to skin damage, certain types of clothes and sunscreen can hinder vitamin D production.

Outdoor Activities

Spending time outdoors is the best way to up your vitamin D levels, especially during warmer seasons when there’s more sunlight. Your body can make all the vitamin D it needs from direct sunlight exposure in spring and summer, so try to spend more time outside and consider exploring some outdoor sports, such as running, hiking, swimming, and playing tennis.

Healthy Diet

You can also increase your vitamin D levels by switching up your diet. Instead of immediately turning to supplements, try to eat more vitamin D-rich foods, such as mushrooms, egg yolks, fatty fish and seafood, such as salmon, herring, sardines, and canned tuna.
