One of the keys to eating healthily is having a well-stocked fridge and pantry. That way, when you need to prepare a quick, last-minute meal you don’t have to sacrifice your nutrition. With the colder weather, comes all the delicious fall flavors and these five ingredients are pantry essentials.

Applesauce

Applesauce is super low in calories and it’s rich in Vitamin C. Not only is it tasty on its own, but it tastes amazing in yogurt and oatmeal. It’s also a great way to add all natural sweetness to baked goods and it can be used as a replacement for wet ingredients like oils and eggs.

Beans

Beans are budget-friendly and they are a great plant-based source of protein, fiber, zinc, copper, and iron. Try adding them to pasta, tossing them in a salad, using them in soups or chillies.

black bean zucchini curry with rice. 🍛 recipe below! inspired by @savoryspin's curry recipes, i decided to combine some of my favorite ingredients into this dish. it's flavorful and quite versatile! you can use whatever types of beans and vegetables you have on hand in place of the black beans and zucchini. 🙂 . black bean & zucchini curry (serves 3-4) -1 large onion, diced (200g) -3 cloves garlic, minced -1 tbsp ginger root, minced -3 dried red chilis; optional -spices: 1 1/2 tsp paprika, 2 tsp ground coriander, 3/4 tsp ground cumin, 3/4 tsp ground turmeric, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp black pepper -6 oz tomato paste (170g) -3 medium zucchinis, chopped (700g) -3/4 cup water (180g) -3 cups cooked black beans (500g after draining) -1 cup full-fat coconut milk (200g) In a large skillet, heat some oil and add the onion. Cook for 5 minutes, then add in garlic, ginger, red chills, spices, and tomato paste. Stir until incorporated. Once the mixture is fragrant, add in zucchini and water. Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Add in black beans and coconut milk, then simmer again for 10 minutes — or until the zucchini is tender. Season with more spices if desired, then serve warm. . . . #veganbowl #veganrecipes #plantbasedrecipes #plantbaseddiet #coconutcurry #vegancurry #blackbeans #zucchini #f52grams #thekitchn #thrivemags #bestofvegan #feedfeed #feedfeedvegan #food52 #foodrevolution #foodstyling #veganfoodporn #veganlunch #vegandinner #healthyfoodshare #vegetarianrecipes #healthyvegan #veganeats #curryrice #veganmeals #eatplants #veganbowls

Maple Syrup

Another great natural sweetener, maple syrup contains minerals and antioxidants. Maple pairs wells with fall flavors like pumpkin, nutmeg, apple, pear and it’s amazing in baked goods, as a glaze for salmon or a topper for pancakes.

Pecans

Pecans add a buttery, nutty flavor to dishes like salad, oatmeal, and baked goods or they taste great on their own as a snack. They’re loaded with healthy fat and can help fight inflamattion.

Pumpkin Puree

Pumpkin puree screams fall and it happens to be high in Vitamin A, C, and B. Add it to soups, baked goods, stews, smoothies, oatmeal, or yogurt.

A workout isn’t just something you do at the gym on specific days of the week. There are plenty of fun activities that help you burn just as many calories as a serious workout, and during the fall, there are several seasonal activities that we particularly love.

Road Biking

Nothing beats a bike ride through beautiful fall scenery. If you live in a city, try going to a rural area and enjoying the fall colors. A park will also do if you don’t have other options.

Apple Picking

If you can get to an orchard, apple picking is an amazing way to spend a fall day. You can eat fresh apples right off the tree and take some home to make delicious treats like apple pies and cakes!

Raking Leaves

While it may not be the most fun activity on our list, it will surely help you burn some extra calories! Any yard work counts, actually, so if there are no leaves to rake, you can trim the bushes, plant some fall flowers, or do anything else that will make your yard look beautiful.
