]]>Veganism is a lifestyle that involves following a plant-based diet free of meat, dairy, and other animal products. The keto diet, on the other hand, calls for the restriction of carbohydrate-heavy foods in favor of options that are high in fat to bring the body into a fat burning state known as ketosis.
Followers of the keto diet typically limit or outright eliminate foods such as grains, certain fruits, and starchy vegetables and instead lean heavily on meat, eggs, and dairy products. As a result, combining both can be a challenge due to all of the foods that end up being eliminated between the two. That said, it is possible with the right knowledge and careful planning.
There are plenty of protein sources including soy, seeds, and seitan that make great plant-based alternatives for animal protein, while nuts, avocado, and coconut oil can provide much-needed healthy fats. Non-starchy vegetables are crucial, of course, and for nutrients like B12 and Omega-3s, talk to your doctor about a supplement routine.

]]>“A ketogenic diet can help with weight loss, which can improve other diseases, however it can affect gut health and digestion in a negative fashion if certain precautions are not made,” Jan Pawel Kaminski, MD, told PopSugar. These precautions mean making sure to include plenty of fiber in your diet, mostly through vegetables. If you can’t eat the required amount, consider fiber supplementation.
According to Dr. Kaminski, fiber is important for preventing inflammation, digestive disorders, and reducing the risk of potential carcinogenic effects. “Taking enough fiber has been shown to prevent constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and diverticulitis,” he explains.
If you’re not sure which vegetables are best for this, you can’t go wrong with spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. Avocados are also a great choice as they are packed with fiber and healthy fats.

]]>Though butter and cheese are often considered keto staples, the answer is a bit more complicated. Many dairy products are great sources of protein, but you shouldn’t forget that they also contain sugar. The lactose found in dairy breaks down into glucose, a sugar in your body that will prevent ketosis.
When in doubt, check the nutrition label on the product. You will quickly realize that ice cream, sweetened yogurts, and flavored milk have more calories and higher sugar content compared to plain milk or cheese. Hard cheese, soft cheese, butter, and even whipped cream should be your go-to choices if you can’t resist dairy while on keto.

Since there is still no research which shows that these pills will help you become more fit, you might be better off doing it the old fashion way – sticking to a healthy diet and exercising.
