Fiber is a Crucial Part of a Keto Diet

A Keto diet comes with plenty of restrictions and forbidden foods, but be careful which important elements you’re eliminating this way. You often hear that A keto diet means eating plenty of protein and fats and little carbs, but what about fiber?

“A ketogenic diet can help with weight loss, which can improve other diseases, however it can affect gut health and digestion in a negative fashion if certain precautions are not made,” Jan Pawel Kaminski, MD, told PopSugar. These precautions mean making sure to include plenty of fiber in your diet, mostly through vegetables. If you can’t eat the required amount, consider fiber supplementation.

According to Dr. Kaminski, fiber is important for preventing inflammation, digestive disorders, and reducing the risk of potential carcinogenic effects. “Taking enough fiber has been shown to prevent constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and diverticulitis,” he explains.

If you’re not sure which vegetables are best for this, you can’t go wrong with spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus. Avocados are also a great choice as they are packed with fiber and healthy fats.
