If you’re slightly familiar with the world of yoga, you’ve probably heard about a posture called crow pose. Crow Pose, or Bakasana, is an arm balancing asana from Hatha Yoga. It involves lifting the body up by leaning the shins on the upper arms. It helps strengthen different body parts like the core, the arms, the wrists, and the back.

In this video, which also happens to be a Halloween video (hence the blonde wig on Adriene’s head during the first 30 seconds), Adriene walks us through the fundamentals of the beloved crow pose. She offers a slow, step-by-step tutorial to make sure we don’t miss a single detail on our way to create the perfect Crow Pose.

“This asana also teaches us and reminds us of the importance of integration in our postures. We work to create a full-body experience. Keep your gaze forward and rock in and out of it,” Adriene writes in the video’s description.

“Crow is a wonderful posture to return to again and again for inspiration and a reminder to focus on the practice. Breathe deep, take your time, and enjoy the journey! The journey is the reward!”

Deciding to commit yourself to a workout program is a big deal for your health. Sadly, about half of the people who start exercising quit within the first six months. Every beginning is hard, so here are a few tips to help you stay on track when it comes to your exercise program.

Easy Start

Your expectations will probably be big but take your time, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Don’t overdo it, start easy, and slowly build your stamina. In a short time, you will start noticing the differences.

Goals List

Set realistic goals for yourself, write them down, and place them in a visible place as a constant reminder of why you started a workout program in the first place. Talk to your family and friends about your goals because they will motivate you to go on.

Routine

Turning exercise into a routine, like showering or brushing your teeth, isn’t easy and it required a good plan. Exercise at the same time every day, make space for it, combine family time, work time, and gym time. Make your exercise session brief and choose a variety of exercises and activities to get proper routine.

If you prefer working out outside, rather than being trapped in a smelly gym, you should always plan your workout ahead of time. Here’s what you need to think about before you head outside for your next exercise session.

Write Down Your Workout

Writing down your workouts will help you stay organized. You should think ahead of time what you want to do that day. If you prefer yoga, don’t just choose random poses once you are outside, there are plenty of audio or video workouts you can follow.

Select a Location

Once you have decided what type of exercises you want to perform, you can now choose the location to do your workout. Make sure there is plenty of space, shade, and access to water. For example, if you plan on doing bodyweight circuit training, find a spot with benches or picnic tables for step ups and dips.

However, if you are more of a yoga person, find a peaceful place and stay away from kid’s playgrounds.

Bring Some Equipment

Working out outside will limit the number of exercises you can perform, so if you can, bring some extra equipment with you. If you are going by car, find a good parking spot where you can easily access your equipment. However, if you love going by bike, choose lightweight equipment you can carry with you.
