Working out is essential for cultivating mental and physical health, but did you know that where you work out can be just as important as the exercise you do? While there are certainly perks to exercising in any location, taking your workouts outside can bring a few unexpected benefits you may not find inside a gym. By incorporating fresh air and sunshine into your workout routine, you can improve your overall wellbeing and develop a more complete perspective on your fitness journey. Read on to learn more about the benefits of working out in nature and some tips for how to do it.

Boost your mood

Time in nature has been scientifically proven to have a profoundly positive effect on mood and mental health. Fresh air and sunshine can help to reduce stress and anxiety by increasing our bodies’ oxygen levels and triggering the release of serotonin in our brains. Try taking a brisk walk in your local park, hiking a local trail, or joining an outdoor yoga class.

Build community

Exercising outside is a great way to connect with the natural world, but it can also help you connect with others. You’re more likely to meet people and strike up conversations in public spaces than you are working out at home. If you are single and fitness is a huge part of your life then you want to make sure that you are meeting like-minded people to date. Enough with the dinner and bar dates, start doing some fun sporty activities instead to see how strong your partner is, and if they can keep up with you. Here are some fun activity dates for you to try on your first date.

Trapeze Class

Sign up for a 90-minute beginner trapeze class and start swinging and spinning around a bar in the air with the greatest of ease. Even if you have never done it before an instructor will work with your ability level and you will learn to trust each other and use each other for support.

Rock Climbing

Using all your upper body muscles in this activity you will get to see your date’s skills (or not) as you work your way up a wall. It will get you both out of your comfort zone and make you use your puzzle-solving skills to move from handhold to handhold without falling off the wall. The best part is rappelling down after you reached the top.

Trampolining

A date at a trampoline park shows you aren’t taking yourselves too seriously, as you get to increase your endorphins whilst jumping up and down and laughing at yourselves. You also get to show off your gymnastic skills and move lymphatic fluid through your body. The lymphatic system works with the circulatory system to flush excess fluid and dead blood cells from tissues. So not only are you having a really fun date you are releasing some toxins along the way.

Rock climbing is one of the most fun activities you could possibly do indoors this fall and winter. If you’re not sure what kind of shoes you should wear at the climbing gym, this brief guide will help you make the right choice.

Regular Trainers

If you’re going rock climbing for the first time ever, there’s nothing wrong with wearing regular trainers, as long as they’re clean. They may not be as effective as climbing shoes, but you’ll be climbing at the beginner level anyway. The main point of the first season is to give rock climbing a go and see if it’s for you, so feel free to wear your regular shoes.

Shoes for Hire

Most climbing gyms offer climbing shoes for hire, so you don’t have to buy your own pair even if you don’t feel like climbing in your trainers. They may not be so great because they’ve already been worn multiple times, but they’re a good place to start.

Climbing Shoes

If you’re not new to rock climbing and enjoy doing it on a regular basis, investing in rock climbing shoes is probably a good idea. They’re more precise and give you more control and a stronger grip. Buying them is definitely a must if you’re climbing often because you won’t have to waste money on rental shoes.

Rock climbing is a very popular sport today and for good reason. It’s a great challenge that’s lots of fun and it can be done inside or outside at a variety of skill levels and environments. If you’re thinking of trying out rock climbing but are on the fence, here are three of this hobby’s unique perks.

Full Body Workout

Rock climbing works the whole body. It may look like it’s all about upper body strength to pull one’s self up, but in fact, staying up against a rock face requires core and lower body strength and technique as well. You’ll manage to build up each muscle group while also taking on a new and unique challenge.

Natural Settings

If you become skilled enough to climb outside, there are many beautiful outdoor climbing destinations to travel to. Whether on mountains or in the forest, rock climbing is also a great way to get out into nature and see some lovely views.

Community

The rock climbing community is a very welcoming one. Climbing with someone helps build trust, which means rock climbing friendships are often true friendships for life. Asking someone to climb with you is also a great way to break the ice!

Rock climbing is considered a dangerous sport that can often lead to injuries, but this certainly shouldn’t stop you from trying it if you’re a thrill-seeker. As a beginner climber you’ll have to learn a lot about this sport in order to stay safe, and here are just a few safety tips to know before you start.

Wear a Climbing Helmet

Despite the fact that you’re likely to see a lot of climbers who are not wearing helmets, this is actually highly advisable if you’re climbing outdoors. Wearing a helmet will protect you from potential head injuries caused by falling rocks or gear, and it’ll also give you a sense of security.

Don’t Go Solo

The truth is that you don’t need a partner for indoor rock climbing, but outdoor climbing is a totally different situation. Even experienced rock climbers should never go climbing alone because you need someone for safety reasons.

Don’t Get Distracted

The most important thing to know about rock climbing is that this sport requires a lot of mental focus. This is why you don’t want to engage in casual conversation with other climbers, enjoy stunning views, or do anything else that could distract you for even a second.

Bouldering, a form of rock climbing that’s done on smaller rock formations or rock walls without ropes or harnesses, is pretty hardcore. It’s also incredibly fun, an absolutely killer full-body workout, and a great way to meet cool people. If you’re thinking of trying it out for yourself, here are some tips.

Communicate

Bouldering, while it may appear to be a solo sport, is actually really social, with many people climbing with partners or chatting with others in the gym while they climb. So don’t hesitate to talk to people around you, even if you came to the gym alone. You can ask for advice, and always let people know when you’re falling so nobody gets crushed under you.

Use Your Legs

People tend to view bouldering as an upper-body sport, so they use their arms and try to muscle their way through problems. But the truth is that your legs are much stronger than your arms, so try to use them as much as possible while climbing.

Get the Right Shoes

While you don’t have to commit to buying an expensive brand-new pair of bouldering shoes right away, we do recommend at least renting climbing shoes to begin with, as they really do make bouldering much easier.

Rockclimbing used to be one of the activities we looked forward to at summer camp. Looking back, those walls seemed easy compared to the ones at bouldering studios. Tackling rock climbing walls can be intimidating at first, but it’s a great workout that you should definitely try. Here’s what you should know before you head out rockclimbing.

Full-Body Workout

Rockclimbing is a cardio and strength workout and reaching the top has a lot to do with form and targeting the right muscles. Instead of focusing on your arms and shoulders to get you up, it’s your legs that will help you climb. Your arms are meant to help you balance.

Start With a Professional

If you’re new to rockclimbing, start by taking an intro to rock climbing class at a bouldering studio, and if you’re heading outdoors, find a certified guide. A guide will help you pick out the best cliffs, guide you through routes, handle your gear, and instruct you as you climb.

Indoor vs. Outdoor

It’s best to start indoors in controlled setting that have predetermined routes for getting up the wall. When you start to get the hang of things, you can do more challenging routes. For outdoor climbing, you are climbing on a natural rock cliff so it’s scarier and less predictable due to rock slippage and weather changes. They’re also usually taller than indoor walls, which will really test your endurance.

Equipment

You can rent all of your equipment, and for indoor walls you’ll need less of it. All you’ll need is a harness, shoes, chalk bag, and belay system and for outdoor climbing, you’ll also need a helmet.

Rock climbing is a strong and robust form of exercise. It develops the whole body and mind, with a lot of space for continual growth and development. Here are five benefits of taking up rock climbing.

Enhances Whole-Body Strength

Rock climbing engages all the muscles in the body. You need to use your legs, arms and core to pull and hold yourself up, and you need strong feet and hand muscles to get a steady grip.

Improves Core Strength

Rock climbing is a very efficient way to improve your core body strength. You have to hold yourself in many positions and sometimes for an extended period of time while you seek the right foothold.

Improves Balance

Climbing up walls or rock faces requires good balance. You need to be able to hold yourself onto the surface while you find the right way up.

Develops Flexibility

If you regularly participate in rock climbing you will quickly develop much better flexibility. The stretching and holding of certain positions will enhance the plasticity of your whole body.

Room for Growth

One of the most exciting things about rock climbing is that there’s a lot of room for growth and development. The sky’s the limit. Once you are confident on practice walls you can try out real rock faces. If you master small rock faces you can progress to larger and more ambitious ones in exotic locations.
