Looking for alternative ways to stay active and live near a body of water? Try stand-up paddleboarding (AKA supping). Originating in Hawaii, supping is a water sport where you stand on a floating board and use a paddle to propel yourself through the water.

It’s a Great Full-Body Workout

Supping is a great way to get a full-body workout whilst having fun. It simultaneously targets multiple muscle groups, including your upper body, arms, core, and legs. It’s low impact, meaning you don’t have to worry about the wear and tear on your body. Supping also helps to improve your balance, build endurance and burn calories.

Helps You Connect With the Outdoors

Supping is a sport that is almost always done outside. Starting the day with a sunrise paddle on a calm sea is an amazing way to immerse yourself in nature and get some vitamin D.

Boosts Your Mood

Supping is a very low-stress and calming form of exercise. It has been linked to improved mood, less stress and anxiety, and has even been recommended for those struggling with depression. Exercise and spending time outside are both essential for mental wellbeing, and supping ticks both boxes!

Standup paddleboarding is one of those water sports that everyone seems to be trying this summer. You’ve probably been tempted to give this fun activity a shot as well, but here are a couple of things you should know before your very first SUP session.

Swimming Pro?

You don’t necessarily have to be a great swimmer to give SUP a try, but it’s recommended to know the basics. Falling off the board is pretty common, especially in the beginning, so knowing how to swim comes in handy, even if you’re wearing protective gear.

Equipment and Clothing

A life jacket isn’t the only piece of equipment you should take on your SUP adventures. Having a safety whistle, light, and a leash for your board is always a good idea. You should also make sure to wear clothes that will dry quickly in case you get wet, and always have sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat by your side.

Be Patient

If you want to take a part in a sports activity where everything will go smoothly from the get-go, SUP is not for you. In the beginning, this water sports will involve a lot of falling and getting back on your board because learning to stand up and keep your balance takes time and effort.

Summer is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to give new, fun water sports a shot. If you still haven’t tried S.U.P. AKA standup paddleboarding, here are a couple of reasons why it may be the perfect summer activity for you.

Full-Body Workout

If you’re looking for a fun workout that targets several muscle groups at the same time, standup paddleboarding will do wonders for your back muscles, arms, legs, shoulders, and core.

Great Cardio

In addition to helping you tone your muscles, S.U.P. is also a great cardio workout and it allows you to burn some major calories along the way.

Low-Impact Workout

SUP is also a great workout for people who may be dealing with knee or hip pain because it’s a low-impact workout that can help you enhance your joint stability.

Improved Balance

By helping you increase core strength and joint stability, standup paddleboarding can do wonders for your balance. After all, balance is required to stand still on the board while you’re paddling.

Stress Relief

If you’re looking for a fun activity that also happens to be a great stress reliever, S.U.P. fits that description. It offers a perfect combo of enjoying nature and socializing with other people, and each session has the power to put you in a better mood.

Working out in the summer when it’s hot may not sound tempting, but there are exercises you can do that won’t overheat your body. It’s important to take precautions and avoid working out during the warmest part of the day.

There are many fun activities that are reserved for the summer months and some of them include water, which will help you cool down when it’s hot. Here are our favorites.

Standup Paddleboarding

Standup paddleboarding is a serious exercise that activates your core, but it feels like playtime. Plus, you get water splashes that definitely help chill down.

Beach Run

If you live near a beach or like to exercise while on vacation, give beach run a try. The sand will make it more difficult which means you’ll burn more calories, and you can always dip your feet in the water when you get too hot.

Swimming

No activity is as perfect for summer as swimming. Swimming has many benefits – it’s great for your posture, gentle on joints, and works out your whole body. Being in water all the time, you won’t sweat or overheat. How perfect is that?
