Bad mental health days have the power to derail all of our plans, including the intense workout that we had scheduled for the day. It’s totally fine to take a rest day when you’re feeling low, but if you think working out will get you in a better mood, here are a few things that will give you a motivational boost.

Take It Easy

There’s no need to put pressure on yourself to give it your all at the gym when you’re having a bad mental health day. Take baby steps and work out for as long as you feel comfortable, even if it means you won’t do all the exercises you were intending with full intensity.

Do What You Love

If there are any parts of your fitness routine that you constantly struggle with and can’t fully commit to, feel free to skip them on the days when you’re feeling low. It will be much harder to commit to working out if you’re pushing yourself to do things that you don’t love.

Stay on the Move

Going to the gym and doing your regular fitness routine isn’t the only way to stay active. Walking, hiking, dancing, or cycling also allows you to stay on the move, and it’s a better option for bad mental health days.

Hiring a personal trainer in order to reach your health and fitness goals can sometimes be a great idea, and yet people can also end up disappointed by their results. It’s important to remember that not all trainers are necessarily the right ones for you, so here are some clear signs that you should find a new trainer.

You’re Not Making Progress

Three to six months is enough time to know if a fitness routine or trainer suits your needs. If you’ve been following your trainer’s instructions, but you still don’t see any results, it’s time to have a talk with them. Either reconsider your routine and goals, or find a better personal trainer.

They’re Not Tracking Your Progress

Weight, circumference measurements, and strength are some of the measurements personal trainers should take in order to track their clients’ progress. If your trainer is not doing this on a monthly basis, there’s no way to track your achievements and you should probably find a new trainer.

Lack of Focus

A personal trainer should be there to motivate and work with you in order to help you achieve your fitness goals, and if they’re not entirely dedicated to the job you’re free to find someone better. A trainer who is often late, distracted by their phone, or doesn’t have time to answer your questions is certainly not worth your money.

Managing your excitement levels could be an excellent way of learning to control your body and help it reach optimum performance. Excitement is to be found at the interface between the “physical” and the “mental”. This means that if you can learn to master your excitement you can become more responsive to both your physical and mental wellbeing. Here are three health benefits of well-managed excitement.

Happiness

When you feel excited, the sympathetic nervous system is engaged, the heart rate increases, and signals are sent to the brain to release more endorphins. These are the hormones that make you feel happy and contented.

Increased Energy

Because the cardiovascular and nervous systems are engaged by excitement, these systems begin to work to give you more short bursts of energy. It also stops longer-term processes such as digestion to concentrate instead on getting energy to the muscles. This can be very good for working out, but it shouldn’t be practiced too often as it might disrupt normal digestion.

Lowers Anxiety

Excitement can be a very powerful tool for combating anxiety. When you feel anxious, try telling yourself that you feel excited instead. This can convert some of that excess nervous energy into happy, energetic activity This requires learning how your mind and body and work together.
