John Joseph’s desire to keep his health in tip-top shape is an amazing story. His endurance and strength takes a lot of training and he follows a strict vegan diet. He was in the navy and incorporates a lot of different exercises including boxing, running, and cycling. He even swims for 2.4 miles as part of his training! Now that’s dedication. He uses plants as fuel for his workouts and he likes to load up on protein to keep his muscles strong.

Diet is Key

John buys his produce in his local grocery store and he started out by eating a fully raw vegan diet. He mentioned that a lot of endurance athletes are resorting to a plant-based diet since the recovery period is less because the body isn’t working as hard to digest the meat protein. He fully enjoys cooking his own meals while adding potent spices such as turmeric since he was influenced by his work in the past in a Hare Krishna temple.

He Takes Shots

Shots of wheatgrass that is. These mini drinks are loaded with chlorophyll, spirulina, and antioxidants including vitamins C and E. In a study, it was revealed that wheatgrass extract can reduce the spread of mouth cancer by 40%. This truly is a green wonder drink!

If you haven’t heard about triathlons, you should know that it’s a set of three continuous and sequential endurance races. There are many triathlon variations, and distances, however, the most common includes swimming, cycling, and running. It was first played in the 1920s, but only in 2000, it became an Olympic sport.

Triathlons are usually individual events. A transition area in triathlons is a place where athletes change gear for different segments of the race. This is where the switches from swimming to cycling and cycling to running occur.

Cross-Training

Doing one sport gives you imbalances in strength, however with a triathlon you prepare your body for all three disciplines, so it’s like doing cross-training. It gives you a more well-rounded, full-body strength.

Heart Health

Just like running, doing a triathlon on a daily basis improves heart health and decreases cardiovascular problems.

Sense of Accomplishment
