Repeating the same exercises over and over again is not the smartest approach to fitness because eventually your body and muscles will get used to this regime. Adding variety to your fitness routine and trying new activities is important for many different reasons, and here are some of them.

Target More Muscles

Taking on a variety of activities and performing different exercises throughout the week is the best approach to fitness for every amateur. This way you’ll target even the smallest muscles in your body and build both upper and lower body strength.

Beat Workout Boredom

Trying different activities such as swimming, running, yoga, strength or cardio training is the best way to get excited about exercise again. If you’re stuck in a rut, this can motivate you to keep working hard on achieving your fitness goals.

Prevent Overuse Injuries

Performing the same exercises and motions over and over again can easily strain your muscles and lead to overuse injuries. That’s why switching up your workout routine is the best way to give certain muscle groups a break while also staying in shape.

With most things in life, we tend to find one thing that we enjoy and stick to it, but this strategy doesn’t really work when it comes to fitness. It’s extremely important to rotate your workouts if you’re looking for long-term results, and here’s why you should do it.

Muscle Gains

If you’re constantly targeting the same muscle groups with your exercises while neglecting the others, your workouts won’t do you any good. In addition to leaving certain muscle groups underdeveloped, this approach may also lead to soreness and injuries.

Empowering an inclusive community of women and girls is core to who we are and what we stand for. As we share the next installment in our #HoldTheSpace series, we hold space for Breonna Taylor. Black women matter. Black lives matter. We stand firmly in our commitments to combat racial injustice.   In these moments, we encourage our community to prioritize self-care and care for those around them. We hold space. We continue September’s conversation on Equity in the Wellness Industry with fitness professional, writer, speaker, anti-racism and equity educator @iamchrissyking. Welcome, Chrissy: “While diversity and inclusion have become buzzwords within the fitness and wellness industry, mainstream fitness is still very white and very thin. When I first entered the fitness industry as a trainer more than five years ago, one of the first things I noticed was a lack of representation of Black women in the industry. It wasn't that Black women weren't entering gym spaces and engaging in physical fitness, but mainstream fitness wasn't elevating the experience of Black women in the industry as participants in fitness, trainers, or even on the covers of fitness magazines. Moreover, the industry wasn't acknowledging that fitness and movement aren't about having a particular physique. Mainstream fitness tends to focus on exercise solely as a means to lose weight, possibly alienating large populations of individuals who perhaps just want to move their body for joy and pleasure. Prioritizing diversity and inclusion matter in every facet of life, but even more so in the wellness space, because health and wellness are important for truly everyone. Everyone deserves access to wellness in environments that feel welcoming and comfortable, and where they feel seen, respected, affirmed, and celebrated.   If you're involved in the wellness industry in any way—as a coach, dietitian, therapist, trainer, studio owner, or even just a fitness enthusiast—this pertains to you.   We can't ignore the fact that racism is a public health issue, nor can we ignore the lack of diversity and inclusion.  We can't stay out of the conversation.  We need to be part of the solution.”

Workout Plateau

The lack of variety may also result in the workout plateau in the long run. This basically means you’re not seeing any changes on your body because it’s so used to your usual approach. Once this happens, it’s important to keep your muscles guessing by rotating your workouts and adding new moves to the mix.

Staying Motivated

In addition to being bad for your body, doing the same workout routine every day can get boring pretty fast. If you find yourself lacking motivation because you don’t find your routine enjoyable, switch things up and try fun new things instead of giving up altogether.
