Staying motivated to hit the gym almost every day doesn’t come easy, but there are many methods you can use to shift your mindset. According to a new study, mindfulness is one of the very best motivational tools out there and it can help you stay committed and look forward to your workout sessions.

The study was published by the journal Mental Health and Physical Activity, and it was conducted on 109 participants from England. They were asked to follow a daily mindfulness program with an app or use an activity monitor and try to reach a daily step goal of 8,000 over the course of 30 days.

Both groups were more active than before the study started by the time it was over, but the group using the mindfulness app actually recorded more hours of moderate exercise per week. They also felt more determined to keep working out and seemed to be more engaged in exercise.

Masha Remskar, PhD and lead study author and researcher at the University of Bath, discussed the results with Women’s Health and shared her thoughts on exercising mindfully.

“We think mindfulness training might actually help equip people with the psychological skills we might need in order to build an exercise habit. But we think it’s actually that effortful training through mindfulness that might help people build the psychological resilience to be able to tolerate some discomfort better,” Remskar explained.

You probably know how hard it is to find a great workout partner. In most cases,  everything is great at the beginning, but as soon as the honeymoon phase is over, you find yourself wanting a change. This is why you should know how to recognize when you have a perfect workout partner beside you in order not to lose them. Here is how to do it.

They Have the Same Level of Dedication and Responsibility

For a workout partnership to work out (pun intended), both partners need to have the same level of dedication and responsibility. This includes having the same goals, being serious about achieving them, and honoring workout agreements no matter what.

They Don’t Push You Beyond Your Limits

A perfect workout partner pushes you to your limits but not beyond your limits. They recognize the full extent of your capabilities and won’t try to get you to do things you are not ready for.

They Lift You When You’re Feeling Down

We all get discouraged when we don’t reach our goals or don’t get results as fast as we would want. Perfect workout partner knows how to get you out of the slump, inject an added dose of motivation, and keep you going.

They Make You Feel Pumped Up About Every Workout Session

Finally, a perfect workout partner makes you feel pumped up about every workout session. If you notice that you are not even thinking about the strain that the workout will cause and just think about how much fun it will be, then they are the one.

We all reach a point when our fitness routine feels a little bit stale, and there are many different ways to shake things up. The change of scenery is a great motivational tool that can revitalize your fitness routine, and here’s how you can apply it to different types of workouts.

Home Workouts

Those working out at home usually find themselves craving the change of scenery the most because their space is extremely limited. If you fall under this category and working out in a different room isn’t an option, consider mixing things up and going to the gym or working out outdoors at least once a week.

Gym Workouts

The easiest way to change the scenery at the gym is to try some new machines, especially since they’ll help you level up your workout routine. If this technique doesn’t do its magic, you can always try boosting your motivation by going to a different gym you’ve been wanting to try forever.

Outdoor Workouts

When you’re working out in the great outdoors, the entire world is your gym. Changing the scenery is pretty easy because you can do your workouts in a different place every day. Whether you’re running or doing yoga at a local park, you can easily switch things up if you’re feeling unmotivated in a place where you usually go.

Workout challenges are a great way to get into fitness, but they’ll only work their magic if you keep working out in the long run. Despite their short-term nature, workout challenges should help you make long-term progress, and here are some of the best ways to keep the motivation up even after your challenge is over.

Continue the Challenge

No matter how long your workout challenge is, you can keep going once it’s over. The main point of these challenges is to help you build good habits that you can keep up in the long run. If the workout program you’ve picked works for you, try sticking to it even after the challenge is over.

Stick to What Works

There will be some parts of your workout challenge that you dread, and there’s nothing wrong with leaving them behind. Keep doing the exercises that made you excited about the challenge in the first place, and find better alternatives for the ones you didn’t enjoy.

Start a New Challenge

If the idea of completing a challenge in seven, 14, or 30 days helped you stay motivated to hit the gym, consider taking part in another challenge. They can be a great motivational tool, and you can use them to power up your fitness routine if you’re struggling to stay motivated any other way.

Reaching 10,000 steps is one of the fitness goals we should all strive towards, but hitting this number every single day doesn’t come easy. If you’re struggling to find motivation to walk 10,000 steps on a daily basis, we’re here with some useful tips that can help you stay on track.

Shorter Intervals

Covering 10,000 steps in one go doesn’t come easy, but this goal seems much more achievable when you break your walks into shorter intervals throughout the day.

Walking Breaks

Taking walking breaks is another great way to get your steps in by breaking your walk into shorter intervals. Try to take a quick lap around your office or home every hour or two, especially if you’re doing a sedentary job.

Fitness Trackers

A fitness band or a sports watch that tracks your steps is a great motivational tool, and it will inspire you to keep going until you reach 10,000 steps.

Make it Fun

Try making your walks more fun by listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks. You can also up your step count by focusing on cardio activities that involve elements of walking, such as dancing or running on a treadmill.

Social Walks

Instead of walking all alone, you can invite your friends and family to join you. In addition to getting your steps in, you’ll also get a chance to catch up with your loved ones.

Treadmill workouts come with a long list of benefits, but they can start feeling pretty monotonous and repetitive after a while. If you’re struggling to stay committed to working out on a treadmill, here are five tips and tricks that can help you improve motivation and make your workouts more enjoyable.

Keep it Fun

Treadmill workouts are extremely multitasking-friendly, and you can make them extra fun by doing some other activities along the way, such as listening to a podcast or watching your favorite TV show.

Don’t Do it Alone

Working out with a friend is one of the best ways to stay motivated to hit the gym. This strategy can do wonders for your treadmill sessions because you’ll have someone to keep you occupied.

Try New Things

Working out on a treadmill is only repetitive if you make it. Try to switch things up by changing the pace, adding intervals, and experimenting with other treadmill settings.

Mix it Up

Treadmill workouts have their benefits, but they don’t have to be the main part of your workout routine. Mix things up by working out on other machines and consider adding some strength training to the mix.

Track Your Progress

Having clear goals and tracking your progress is one of the best ways to stay motivated, and you should definitely apply this strategy to your treadmill workouts.

Staying committed to your workout routine requires a lot of effort, and finding motivation doesn’t always come easy. That’s why it’s a good idea to constantly shift your approach by embracing some new motivational techniques, and the two-minute rule is one of the very best. If you’re not familiar with this effective motivational strategy, we’re here with all the details you need.

What is the Two-Minute Rule?

The two-minute rule is an effective motivational technique that can help you combat procrastination not only at the gym but in other areas of your life. In terms of fitness, the main idea behind this strategy is to commit yourself to a workout that you can complete in just two minutes, and see where the journey takes you.

The two-minute rule can help you combat the mental resistance you have towards working out. Once you overcome the initial lack of motivation, it will be easier to push yourself and build good habits in the long run.

Benefits of the Two-Minute Rule

The two-minute rule is extremely beginner-friendly because you can do any type of exercise that suits you. It’s also highly likely that your workout won’t last just two minutes. Once you get going, you’ll be motivated to work out for longer, even if you’ve only initially committed yourself to a two-minute routine.

The two-minute rule will help you gently slide into a workout, and build commitment as you go along. It’s all about taking baby steps towards reaching your goals and realizing that two minutes are sometimes all it takes to build good habits and improve yourself.

Most people struggle going to the gym without anyone by their side, and there’s no shame in being one of them. If you don’t have a workout buddy to join you or you want to do it all on your own, we’re here with some useful tips that will help you summon the courage for your solo workouts.

Try Home Workouts

Hitting the gym on your own can feel intimidating, but working out at home is always an option. YouTube is filled with fun apartment-friendly workouts that you can do from home, with no equipment.

Baby Steps

Don’t push yourself too hard if you’re at the very start of your fitness journey. Kick things off with relaxing exercises and activities you’re comfortable with before increasing the intensity of your workouts.

Set Fitness Goals

Working out with clear fitness goals is the best way to stay motivated. They’ll give you something to strive toward and make it easier to plan your fitness routine.

Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is also a great motivational tool, and there are many different ways to do it. Some people enjoy taking progress photos, while others prefer using a workout journal.

Audio Materials

Hitting the gym on your own can feel intimidating, but you can always try using audio materials such as music, podcasts, and audiobooks to distract yourself.

There are many fun strategies that can help you stay motivated when you don’t feel like working out,  and the 10-minute rule is one of the very best. If you still haven’t tried applying it to your fitness routine, we’re here with all the details you need about this simple, yet effective motivation strategy.

10-Minute Rule, Explained

The 10-minute rule suggests you should commit to only 10 minutes of working out, ideally every single day. It’s a pretty simple concept since it’s not difficult to put 10 minutes aside, no matter how packed your schedule is. It’s up to you to pick a routine that suits you, and you can even mix it up and do something different every day.

Keep Pushing Yourself

The best thing about the 10-minute rule is that you’ll be pumped up to keep working out even after the initial 10 minutes pass. The main goal of this motivational technique is to get you started, but it’s up to you to keep going for as long as you want to and make your workouts longer if you’re up for it.

Building Consistency

The 10-minute rule is a great way to build consistency and become more disciplined with your fitness routine. Even if your workouts are short, it’s better than not working out at all, and it will give you a sense of achievement and motivation to keep going.
