The unfortunate thing about aging is that things no longer perform like they used to. One of these is our metabolism. After the age of 30, one’s metabolism slows down, meaning you may feel more sluggish than you did a decade before. 

A slow metabolism also means that we may crave foods that are high in carbs and sugar and be susceptible to mood swings. The good news is, your metabolism can be reset by making a few small changes. 

Get Enough Shut Eye

Sleep is crucial to an optimal metabolism. When we are sleep deprived, our bodies become stressed, pushing up our levels of cortisol. Aim to get at least eight hours of (good quality) sleep per night.

The Most Important Meal of the Day

Been told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day? There’s a reason for that. Eating breakfast fast-tracks your metabolism and keeps your energy high all day. So don’t skip it. 

Become a Pro at Probiotics

You can’t have a healthy metabolism without a healthy gut. Probiotics are an excellent way to bring balance to the gut and can be found through supplements or Greek yogurt. If you’re opting for the latter, make sure it states “contains active cultures”.

Not all workout routines are created equal, and sometimes the best ones are actually super quick. These 10-minute workouts will be over in a jiffy, and the best part is that they’re amazing for your metabolism. Have some fun with these uber-quick exercises, and enjoy seeing the results!

Squats

In order to do squats properly, crouch down low and turn your toes slightly outward. As you bend your knees toward the floor, make sure you don’t lean forward. It’s also advised to do this quickly, and ideally in the morning. You should be able to repeat this 25 times in under ten minutes.

Air Jump Rope

It’s not just jump roping that fitness trainers recommend. The act of mimicking your jump rope activity is actually super beneficial, and if you do 50 “jumps”, you’d be hard-pressed to not break a sweat!

High Knees

Start the high knee exercise by jogging in place, and get ready to start moving. Raise your knees up high so that they’re level with your hips, and pump your arms in the process. Do this activity 50 times, and you’ll start to feel the burn in your legs. By the time your 10 minutes are up, you’ll have just finished an incredible workout.
