Over the past few years, fitness trackers like Fitbits and Apple Watches have become incredibly common and popular among the fitness community. If you don’t have one yet, you might feel social pressure to get one. But if you’re a thoughtful consumer, you’re probably waiting to buy one until you can answer the question, “Do I really need a fitness tracker?”.

Well, it all depends on what you’re looking for.

If the following statements apply to you then, yes, you might benefit from a fitness tracker:

  • You have difficulty motivating yourself to exercise
  • You like gamification
  • You care about your daily step count
  • You like tracking data
  • You’re new to fitness and want to build healthy habits
  • You don’t have an addictive personality

However, if the following statements are more accurate for you, you can probably pass on this pricy purchase:

  • You don’t gravitate toward fitness trends
  • You’re not usually interested in buying the latest popular gadget
  • You don’t track metrics like daily step count or heart rate

Smartwatches and fitness trackers are similar in more ways than one, but that doesn’t automatically make them the same. If you’re wondering what’s the difference between the two and which one is a better choice for you, this brief guide will help you make the final verdict.

Fitness Tracking

From counting steps, distance, calories to tracking your sleep and heart rate, fitness trackers keep all your daily activities in check. Most smartwatches offer those same features and some of them are so advanced and precise that they can basically double down as a fitness tracker.

Additional Functions

One thing that makes smartwatches superior are the many additional functions that have nothing to do with fitness tracking. In addition to tracking fitness, they also allow you to take calls, answer texts and download all sorts of apps. If you find these features distracting, fitness trackers may be a better fit for you.

Different Design

One of the main differences between smartwatches and fitness trackers is their design. Fitness trackers usually have a bracelet-like style and they’re pretty light and quite thin. Smartwatches can be much more stylish, and certain types look just like standard watches.

Fitness trackers are a useful device that can help you take your workout journey to the next level, but it can be difficult to get used to wearing them on a regular basis. If you still haven’t reached the level where you wear your fitness tracker every day, here are some tricks that can help you get used to it.

Why Not?

There’s probably a very good reason why you’re avoiding your fitness tracker, so it’s important to figure out what the problem is. If you’re annoyed by all the notifications, turn them off, and if you don’t like the way it sits on your hand, just give it time to get used to it.

Wear It Outside

Some people wear their fitness trackers 24/7 while others can’t imagine doing it all the time. If you’re a part of the second group, at least try wearing your fitness tracker when you go out and your step count is the largest. Don’t take it off as soon as you get home, and it will be just a matter of time before you start wearing it all day long.

Set Your Goals

You’ll be more inclined to wear your fitness watch on a regular basis if you’re working towards clear goals. Your phone won’t count your steps, distance, calories, and heart rate as accurately, so you’ll have a much harder time keeping track of them if you’re avoiding your fitness tracker.

Fitness watches have become widely popular among athletes and people who work out on a regular basis, and for a very good reason. They monitor our heart rate, count how many steps we’ve taken, how many calories we’ve burned, and more. And yet, they can also negatively impact our life and health. Here are a few signs that it may be time to ditch your fitness tracker.

You’re Upset For Not Reaching Goals

Competing with yourself can be good to some extent as long as it motivates you to work on reaching your fitness goals. However, the moment you feel anxious, frustrated, or even ashamed for not reaching some of your daily or weekly goals, that may be a sign that it’s time to ditch your fitness tracker.

You Feel Pressured To Work Hard

If your tracker makes you feel like you constantly need to keep pushing harder, to increase the length or intensity of workouts, that’s not a good sign. Eventually, this behavior can lead to a burnout or you’ll even grow to hate exercising, so it’s always best to forget about your tracker and listen to your body instead.

You Skip Rest Days

Another negative effect of constantly using a fitness tracker is that it can make you feel bad or guilty for taking rest days. Skipping rest days is a huge workout mistake that can lead to burnout or injuries, so make sure to give your body time to relax and recover.

Fitness trackers are a great device that can help you track your fitness goals and monitor your progress over time. But keep in mind that fitness trackers are so much more than this and you don’t want to miss out on all the other functions they have to offer. Here are some fun ways you can use your fitness tracker.

Challenge a Friend

Many fitness trackers provide a lot of useful and fun functions, including one that allows you to challenge and compete with friends. Working out with a friend will hold you accountable and keep you motivated to stay active.

Set Reminders

The easiest way to incorporate more activity into your schedule is to set reminders. Your fitness tracker can remind you to do a quick workout every day or to go for a short walk every other hour.

Sign Up for Challenges

Signing up for daily and weekly challenges, such as fitness bets or step counts, is also a great way to boost your motivation. You can download many fitness apps on your watch and they also have forum and discussion groups where you can get in touch with other people and find useful advice.

Fitness trackers became a popular way to stay on top of your physical activity day after day, without really having to do anything. Simply wearing a fitness tracker will provide you with useful information like daily steps, hours of sleep, heart rate, etc. But as convenient as they are, do fitness trackers have a dark side?

On one hand, wearing a fitness tracker can motivate you to go the extra mile to complete the desired number of steps each day. In that way, the effect of this fun little gadget is positive. But some people slip into the dark side of tracking their fitness levels without even noticing it. It starts with obsessively checking steps all the time and setting unrealistic goals that can even make other aspects of life irrelevant.

. update on me . ____ So I got a email today saying I’ve had my blog live for a year!😯 that’s mad. —— I haven’t posted much on it lately but I have 4 blogs lined up just waiting for more me time and maybe a laptop as it’s so much easier to edit and sort out. —— As you may of seen I have been posting about the @exantediet for nearly a whole week now. I started this diet because I have seen so many good results and I wanted to try something that fitted in with my daily lifestyle and for me to have a shake/bar is easier than make food up specially with a crazy toddler running around. I now work with #exante to help people like yourselves achieve the goals you want. I now have a code – EMILY35 which is a HUGE discount off your orders. The link is in my bio so go check it out. —— So far so good! I haven’t felt hungry or deprived of anything my body seams to be taking to it really well. It’s good to mix it a little with bars or other replacement meals they have. I’ve ordered some lemon pancakes, porridge and chocolate delight😛 —— I have been #gifted a lovely pair of wireless @sudio headphones to review for my #Youtube. They are super light weight and so simple to use, they also come in various colours check out their page. —— Weight day is Monday and I’m so excited to see my first results! Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions or tips if you’re already on this #diet I’d be happy to help. —— Fitness watch also previously gifted. ____ #mumtoatoddler #timetoburncalories #kidscircle1 #mumsprouts #xsupkids #motherandtoddler #fitnesspro #supstarcom #kidslxm #tribelxm #weightlossinspiration #exantediet #exantejourney #exantefamily #exantedietuk #mumbloggers #motherhoodblogger #fitnesstracker #veryfitpro #sudiosound

There’s really such a thing as a fitness tracker addiction and here are some signs that you have it:

  1. You always feel like you didn’t do enough, even if you exercised more than once that day.
  2. You neglect responsibilities in order to squeeze in more workout time.
  3. You get upset and anxious if you can’t use your fitness tracker.
  4. You know that the fitness tracker is making you miserable, but you’re still using it.

Most people set certain goals before starting a new fitness program, and it’s much easier to reach them if you’re tracking your progress. You can do it by using fitness apps, journals, or before and after photos, and you won’t regret it no matter which method you end up picking.

Motivational Tool

Tracking your progress will motivate you to stay committed to your fitness plan. It will inspire you to reach, or even surpass your goals because you’ll constantly remind yourself what you’re working towards.

Here’s a little real life update for you guys. I started coming down with a nasty cold/sinus infection on Sunday night (don’t worry, I tested negative for COVID) and I wasn’t able to do Morning Meltdown Monday-Thursday this week. I felt awful skipping but I knew my body couldn’t handle it. Today I felt a little better and was able to highlight workout 36 out of 100! It felt sooooo good to get back at it. Now I know that working out in the morning isn’t just a new fad for me, I’ve turned it into a habit. I had to make some adjustments to my workout calendar. It doesn’t look pretty but that’s real life. I didn’t just create this page for Instagram, I created it to actually use and reference. So I’m using it! (Don’t even get me started on how messy my current weekly spread looks in this planner). 😂 . . . #thehappyplanner #iamahappyplanner #classichappyplanner #livecreatively #planahappylife #embracethediscs #plannercommunity #plannerbabe #skinnyclassichappyplanner #fitnessplanner #happysquad23 . . . Staying Accountable

Progress tracking is also a great way to keep yourself accountable. When you’re regularly logging your progress after each workout, it’s much more difficult to skip them and the process of writing down your progress or taking pictures will be all the motivation you need.

. ⌚Smart watch vs. fitness band: what's the difference? A fitness band is a slim little wrist gadget that can track some parameters and alert you of a few things (incoming phone calls, notifications, and alarms). A smart watch, with its larger screen, can do a lot more, from checking emails and social media to…well, I don't have one, so I'm not that sure! . ⌚Why I chose the band: I don't need to have a 'mini' phone, since I already spend too much time on my phone as it is. I wanted something simple that would track basic things and send some alerts – nothing fancy. I also didn't want something large and chunky on my wrist, and the band felt just right. . I had some questions about how they work, so I did some light reading and am doing my best to share it with you guys. . 🦶How can it measure steps? It uses a 3-axis accelerometer to measure acceleration based on start, intensity and end of motion. ❤How can it measure heart rate? It uses a LED light to shine light onto your vessels, so that a sensor can measure the speed of the blood flowing. 😴How does it track sleep? It uses heart rate and your movement at night to estimate which phase of sleep you might be in (non-REM vs REM, etc.). 🍔How does it count calories? It estimates calories burned using your BMR (basal metabolic rate, which is based on your weight, height, gender, age) and some fancy-smancy mystery math involving your heart rate during your workout. . ❗How accurate are these fitness trackers and smart watches? The science seems to say that they're not *so* accurate. They're a work in progress, and there's a lot of improvements to be made. Exercise tracking and calorie counting can be especially inaccurate, but at least consistently so – so a motivated person can still definitely benefit. . ⌚My watch: Honor Band 5 – it pairs to my Huawei Mate 20 Lite's Health App, and suits me just fine! . Do you have one? . #fitnesstracker #healthyhabits #honorband5 #fitnesstips #techinfo

Special equipment becomes more popular every day in exercises. Aside from the regular resistance bands, balls, and weights, everyone seems to have a fitness tracker. What are these devices and do you actually need to get one? Let us give you a scoop of the biggest benefits and you’ll be able to decide for yourself.

Follows the Heart Rate

Heart rate is one of the most important factors you have to follow during exercises. It is crucial to notice any changes happening, in order for you to know whether there’s something going on. If the heart rate is steady, the fitness tracker will let you know, and that way you’ll be sure there are no health issues.

Feel More Motivated

Research shows that people who use fitness trackers are significantly more motivated to exercises compared to the ones who don’t. The reason is simple, with these gadgets you can follow so many factors, including the calories, steps, diet, and good results will inspire you to do even better.

Promotes Quality Sleep

The fitness tracker will help you sort out your sleeping schedule. Health does not come only from exercise, but also from proper habits. Together with all other benefits, it can really improve your life.

Keeping track of your exercise activity, monitoring your heart rate, and recording your sleep used to be something we’d have to do ourselves, but now there’s a technology that takes care of all that for us. Galaxy Watch

We’re in love with the rose gold color this watch comes in, but if you’re looking for a more neutral color you can always get it in midnight black or silver. This watch is a style statement in itself, but it will also track your sleep, exercise, and the calories you burn. You can make phone calls from your phone, get workout suggestions, and a weather report. Connect to Spotify, SmartThings, or any other apps with your Galaxy.
