If you do a lot of cardio work, you’ll know that cramp can be a real problem. When the muscle seizes up it’s not only painful and frustrating, but can also prevent you from exercising for some time. Here are four helpful home remedies that you can implement with minimum fuss.

Stretching

When you get cramps in your legs or arms, the best thing to do is to gently stretch the muscle and massage the area. This will relax the tension in your muscles, but make sure you don’t stretch too hard!

Magnesium

Having enough magnesium in your diet can help prevent your muscles from cramping. Try eating more nuts and seeds as these are excellent sources of magnesium.

Apply Heat

Applying heat to a cramped muscle is a great way to relax the whole area. When muscles are warm they loosen and contract. Try putting a hot towel or a heating pad on it, or taking a soak in a hot bath.

Stay Hydrated

In the long run, the way to avoid cramps is to make sure you stay hydrated. This means drinking enough water daily in addition to sports drinks while you’re working out.

Living a healthier lifestyle and working out don't have to be torture ๐Ÿ˜ I have been down that road far too many times. This was my cycle: 1. Not happy with how I felt and looked 2. Did an aggressive 3-7 day cleanse 3. Didn't eat enough food to nourish my body 4. Ran on the treadmill until I couldn't go any longer 5. Avoiding things I enjoyed because it RUINED EVERYTHING 6. Hit some type of weight goal I had for myself 7. RINSE.WASH.REPEAT This was me for 6 years after I finished playing college football. I had some times where I looked pretty decent during that span but I was never healthy or happy with myself. It wasn't until 2017 when I made a major change. The change was actually not that drastic but it created the most drastic positive shift in my life. I decided to slowly live healthier, set realistic goals that can be achieved healthily, and appreciate the process. I know… Groundbreaking right!? I started to drink more water, not eat as much food, and make smarter choices. I saw an ad once that said one small choice effects the next one. After putting that to the test, I can tell you it is true. I have slowly grown to make better choices. Nothing happened overnight. In the gym, I actually started to work out less. I stopped torturing myself with hours of cardio. I started doing more things I enjoyed like heavier weightlifting, basketball, and being active outside the gym. I started to enjoy my workouts. Next is where the magic happened. I honestly don't know when but it happened. At some point, this became my lifestyle. That is something I had never experienced before with fitness. Even as a college athlete I always hated workouts. They finally became something I enjoyed. I started to enjoy eating healthier and working out for the first time in my life after years or torturing myself. All it took was to realize I had a problem and make a small mindset change. If you can relate to any of this, I BEG you to stop torturing yourself. Eating healthier & working out can be sustainable and enjoyable. Ginger is not just a tasty root that can be used to spice up desserts and flavor drinksโ€”it’s also packed full of surprising health benefits that can support your whole body. Let’s take a look at five of the health benefits that can help you in your day-to-day lives.

Supports the Immune System

Ginger contains gingerol, a powerful antioxidant that can reinforce your immune system. Sprinkle some ginger on your salad or sip some ginger tea to get a quick health boost.

Anti-Inflammatory

Containing antioxidant phytonutrients like that also found in nuts, seeds, beans and whole-grains, ginger can act as an anti-inflammatory by reducing cell-signalling activity.

Relieves Period Pain

Ginger is a natural way to relieve period pain and reduce nausea. However, it may not work so well if it is combined with ibuprofen, so check what medications you are taking first.

Have you experienced sore muscles a day or two after you work out? Know that you’re not aloneโ€”you’re experiencing delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). DOMS occur when there are microtears within the muscle that leads to an inflammatory process over the first 24 to 48 hours after an intense workout. While there are recovery methods like professional messages and cold water immersion, that have been proven to be effective, there are ones you can do at home. Check them out below!

Ice and Heat

Whether ice or heat works better for treating sore muscles is debatable, but they both work really well. Studies have shown that ice helps manage pain while others have shown that heating pads can help ease pain temporarily.

Things in Your Kitchen

Tart cherry juice, tumeric, and protein-rich chocolate milk have been shown to minimize soreness after exercising. It’s also important to eat a balanced diet with proteins and carbs and to drink lots of water.

Active Recovery, Foam Rolling, and Sleep

Keeping active by walking, stretching, cycling, and light lifting has shown to be the most effective for treating DOMS. Foam rolling can help temporarily because it increases blood flow to the muscles and getting enough sleep will help your muscles repair themselves.
