Constipation—how can you prevent it and make sure you stay regular? You want to make sure you eat foods that are rich in fiber and drink lots of water. Fiber is a non-digestible carbohydrate that is found in plant foods and comes in two forms: soluble and insoluble. Soluble dissolves in water and insoluble doesn’t dissolve and forms a gel to create a softer stool for you to pass. Both are needed in your diet to keep you regular. Here are five foods to eat that are high in fiber that can prevent constipation.

Apples

Apples have 5g of fiber per fruit. They are a great snack food, and you can drizzle some peanut butter on them to make them tastier.

Whole Grains

A balanced diet should include lots of whole grains such as quinoa or oats which are rich in fiber and really filling. Try to eat oats in the morning and some quinoa for lunch to get your fiber quota for the day.

Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are really high in fiber—they have 10g per ounce! They are easy to incorporate into your diet. Just add them to your granola or make a chia seed pudding for your breakfast.

Prunes

Prunes are regularly eaten for constipation as they have a high sorbitol content and contain 11g of fiber per cup. You can eat them on their own or blend into a filling smoothie.

You don’t need to get out of your home in order to make these delicious energy balls—we’re sure all the ingredients are already in your pantry! Here’s how to make simple almond oat bites that will satisfy your craving for a sweet snack while being a healthy and responsible choice.

Are you still working from home? With kids who have Zoom classes all day long, we completely understand why there always needs to be something sweet in the house. If you want to avoid industrial snacks and want to make something healthy for your family instead, these energy bites are a perfect solution even when you don’t have much time.

We absolutely love snacks like this that manage to combine protein, carbs, and healthy fat into delicious bite-sized pieces. You will need rolled oats, almond butter, and maple syrup—that’s all! Oats are a whole grain that will keep you satisfied for a long time. Almond butter adds healthy fats as well as Vitamin E, potassium, calcium, and other minerals into the mix. And maple syrup is there to spice things up in the most beautiful way. This natural sweetener balances the flavor of oats and almond butter and you will love it.

Mix together 1 cup of oats that you previously toasted in a pan, 6 tablespoons almond butter, and 2 tablespoons maple syrup. Use a blender to create a compact mixture then create balls with your palms. Store in the fridge before serving.

Oat milk is an alternative to dairy milk that’s just becoming popular in coffee shops and grocery stores. If you’re a bit tired of soy or almond milk, it may be just the thing you need to continue enjoying your dairy-free lattes, oatmeals, and other delicious food.

Oat milk is creamy and rich; it’s simply a perfect substitute for dairy milk if you don’t drink it for any reason. You may be suspicious about it at first, but it’s definitely worth the hype. Here’s how you can make it at home. You don’t need any special tools, but you’ll need a clean towel for filtering milk.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Soak the oats in separate water and leave them for an hour.
  2. After one hour has passed, strain the oats and wash them under the water stream. It’s easier if you use a colander.
  3. Put the oats in the blender, add 4 cups of water, honey, and vanilla extract.
  4. When everything is blended nicely, strain the milk through a towel or a nut milk bag to get rid of any clumps.
  5. Keep in the fridge and use in the following 5-6 days.
