]]>There are tons of athletic wear brands on the market to choose from, but we especially love to support the ones who create high-quality gear with sustainability in mind. From utilizing recycled materials to ensuring garment workers are paid a living wage, here are some of our favorite eco-friendly athletic brands:
Girlfriend comes out on top in pretty much every category of sustainability and ethical business practices. Their pieces are made with recycled materials and arrive in eco-friendly packaging, their workers are paid a living wage, and they offer some of the most inclusive sizing of any athletic wear brand we’ve found. We especially love their leggings, which are made with 25 recycled water bottles!
Patagonia has always put its money where its mouth is when it comes to sustainability. They actually go so far as to discourage consumers from purchasing too many of their products and promote the reuse and repair of Patagonia pieces over buying new ones.
Who said ethical activewear can’t look cool? Outdoor Voices is beloved by fitness enthusiasts and influencers with an interest in workout gear that looks as good as it feels. Their pieces are also made from recycled and sustainably sourced materials and workers are paid fair living wages.

]]>Arriving all the way from Sweden, plogging is a combination of jogging and picking up trash. In fact, the word “plogging” is a compound of the word “jogging” with the verb “plocka upp,” which is Swedish for “picking up.”
But plogging has come to include various physical activities other than just jogging! When you plog, you get to pick up waste and help the environment while running, walking, and hiking, with the addition of stretching, bending and even squatting. It’s all very flexible (no pun intended.)
After starting in Sweden in 2016, which is really not that long ago, plogging became popular in other countries as well. People around the world started to understand the great potential in combining exercise with eco-friendly activity. Today, around two million people in 100 countries plog every day!
If you want to give it a try, you can either look for an organization or a Plogging group in your area, or simply start one yourselves. It’s a true win-win situation for everyone.

]]>Staying hydrated before and after a workout is important, but try to avoid using plastic water bottles and switch to reusable alternatives like stainless steel or glass water bottles.
If you like to eat a light snack after a workout, pack a healthy homemade meal in a reusable container instead of using single-use plastics.
Taking a hot shower is the best and most relaxing thing to do after an intense workout. However, if you want to live a more sustainable lifestyle you can save gallons of water by shortening your showers by just a few minutes.
Washing workout clothes after every gym session may not be good for the environment, but you must do it. To reduce your environmental impact you can use an eco-friendly detergent, only run a full load of clothes, and air-dry it if possible.

]]>Our body loses a lot of water during exercise, so it’s important to stay hydrated during and after a workout. However, keep in mind that plastic water bottles are one of the biggest contributors to plastic waste, which is why it’s best to switch to stainless steel or glass water bottles.
You know that you need clean workout clothes every time you hit the gym, but there are few ways to make your laundry routine more eco-friendly. Cut down your energy consumption by air-drying your clothes instead of using the dryer, use an eco-friendly detergent, and run the washing machine when it’s full.
In case you like snacking after a workout, try to avoid buying food or drinks that come in plastic packaging, with plastic bags or straws. Instead, adopt sustainable habits by packing homemade snacks in a reusable container.
There’s nothing better than a long hot shower after a hard workout, but try to cut your water use by shortening the showers by just a few minutes and you’ll save gallons of water.

]]>100% cotton workout clothes are eco-friendly and feel great against your skin. They absorb moisture and let your skin breathe without locking the heat close to your body. Other great options include bamboo and soy fabric.
This is one of the easiest changes to implement. A reusable water bottle doesn’t have to cost a fortune and it will keep you from buying a new single-use bottle whenever you work out. If you go with plastic, make sure it’s BPA-free. Also, don’t replace the bottle often just because you find a new one with prettier design, as each of them ends up on the landfill.
All the activity throughout the day counts, and if you want to make it more green, choose biking, walking, or riding a scooter to work instead of driving a car. It will help you burn some additional calories while reducing pollution – a clear win-win.
