HIIT workouts experienced a huge rise in popularity in the last few years, but not everyone finds it easy to adapt to them. If you still find their intensity intimidating, fitness influencer Ashley Joi shared some useful advice that will change the way you approach HIIT training.

Most people feel like they have to give 100% during each workout, but Joi doesn’t think that’s necessarily true. The fitness trainer discussed her approach to HIIT with Body + Soul and shared the method she believes leads to much better results.

“The secret to getting results is working at around 75-90 percent of your maximum effort for the working phase to get your body into that fat burning zone. Putting your heart rate at that level forces your body to adapt to the demands of the workout and pushes your metabolic response,” explained Joi.

Joi also pointed out HIIT sessions aren’t just a great way to burn fat. They’re also amazing for your cardiovascular system and muscle endurance. She also shared a couple of useful tips for people who are getting back into their routine—keeping your sessions short, taking rest in between, and making an effort to track your progress.

Do you hit the gym on a daily basis and beat yourself up every time you miss a workout? You shouldn’t feel bad about decreasing the number of your weekly sweat sessions according to fitness influencer Krissy Cela, who’s reaping the benefits from doing the same.

The famous trainer with over 1.7 million Instagram followers started her fitness journey about five years ago and used to hit the gym almost on a daily basis. That changed along the way after her schedule became more hectic and she started to struggle juggling many things at once.

While chatting with Cosmopolitan, Krissy Cela admitted she decreased the number of her weekly workouts, and that this was probably the best decision she ever made.

“I slowly realized that my workouts should work around me, my lifestyle and my happiness, not the other way round. Physically and mentally I feel better than ever. I am giving my body enough time to fully recover which means I can train even harder on my next session,” she revealed.

Cela ended up switching from 5-6 workouts a week, to 3-4 sessions instead and she feels less overwhelmed and anxious after making a switch. Remember her story if you’re struggling to reach “five gym sessions a week” goal, and try to find something that works for you, instead.

Barry has attracted over 65.000 followers by always keeping it real and being honest about her fitness journey. Her approach stayed the same once it was time to share the secret behind her perfect abs.

“First things first – everyone has abs. How visible your abs are comes down to your bodyfat percentage, where you genetically store fat & the thickness of your abdominal wall, (also high waisted leggings, good lighting and a tan),” wrote Hannah Barry on Instagram.

Fitness influencer also stressed the importance of consistent training and adequate nutrition. She also reassured her followers they can still look amazing without a six-pack, since this goal can lead to unhealthy percentage of body fat if you’re not genetically predisposed to have one.
