Keeping an upright, aligned posture while meditating is difficult since we’re used to slouching over our keyboards all day. So, how important is a good posture in meditation?

When meditating, the ideal position is seated, cross-legged in Easy Pose. To make the position more comfortable, you can use a blanket, yoga block, or lean up against a wall. Another position you can try is Hero’s Pose, which has you kneeling and placing a block or cushion under you. If you have knee or hip problems, sit on a straight-backed chair with your feet on the ground.

These positions are ideal because they allow you to explore your consciousness and breath deeper. When you’re sitting in a well-aligned position, as you inhale, your belly can expand and the diaphragm can drop down, making for more space for the lungs to expand. When you exhale, the diaphragm moves back up, helping the breath escape.

Bad posture can affect more than just your breathingā€”it can create discomfort and lead to distraction while you’re meditating. Also, if you’re lying on your back, it can make you more sleepy, which isn’t what meditation is all about.

A good night’s sleep is vital to a healthy body and a happy life. It allows our bodies to repair themselves, build muscle, and recharge batteries as well. Fortunately, if you suffer from inadequate sleep patterns, meditation might be the answer. Taking a few simple steps every night for around ten minutes before bed might be just what you needā€”and here’s the best way to accomplish that.

Lie Down

This meditation is best if you’re lying down, although you can also sit down if you prefer. You can lie on the floor or in bed with your legs outstretched, which will help you relax.

Deep Breaths

Just Decide to Start

The first step is always the hardest. You will have to be very firmly convinced that you want to start practicing mindfulness meditation. Once you do, it will be so much easier. You don’t need any equipment or hours of your free time. Minutes will do the job.

Do Not Judge

The whole point is to live in the moment and focus on your own senses. In the process, you should stop judging others and that will only promote your success. So every time that you get those judgy thoughts, let them go.

Breathe

Breathing is that physiological feature that can control your current state. Slow it down, and start taking deep breaths. Feel each and every single one of them. Make sure that you’re really breathing through the nose and let go through the mouth.

What does healthy mean to you? . . I have studied Nutrition and Alternative Healing for over a decade and Iā€™ve definitely felt the benefits. But, it wasnā€™t until I committed to a daily meditation practice, that my health completely changed. . Itā€™s true – eating whole, real and nourishing foods matter. After all #foodismedicine . But itā€™s so much deeper than that. We have to take care of both our minds and bodies…along with eating nutritious foods, we need to: . * Move our bodies (exercise and stretching) * Connect with our emotions * Serve our spirituality * Build a relationship with our breath * Deepen our consciousness . There are many pillars to creating Whole Health. . Nothing happens over night. There are no quick fixes for this long term lifestyle. Itā€™s an ongoing evolution that flourishes beautifully when you commit to these healthy habits and lifestyle changes. . For me, my game changer has been my meditation practice. It has literally had a positive impact in every part of my life. Itā€™s helped me be more mindful about my own eating habits, more aware of my behaviors, less reactive in just about every situation I come across in my day. Itā€™s opened my mind to more creativity with my business and pathways in life. Most importantly, itā€™s made me a better mom. I am less cranky in the evenings, more compassionate to my childrenā€™s life experiences and all around more present when I am with them. . This balance of life – with all of these pillars – is what brings my soul happiness. Doing my best to learn and grow, without the pressure of perfection. . Just Decide to Start

The first step is always the hardest. You will have to be very firmly convinced that you want to start practicing mindfulness meditation. Once you do, it will be so much easier. You don’t need any equipment or hours of your free time. Minutes will do the job.

Do Not Judge

The whole point is to live in the moment and focus on your own senses. In the process, you should stop judging others and that will only promote your success. So every time that you get those judgy thoughts, let them go.

Breathe

Breathing is that physiological feature that can control your current state. Slow it down, and start taking deep breaths. Feel each and every single one of them. Make sure that you’re really breathing through the nose and let go through the mouth.

Calm

This app is great for busy mornings, but it is even better for longer sessions up to 25 minutes. The Calm App also tracks how much tie you spent meditating and records it daily. It is suitable for iOS and Android devices, the downloading is free, with a $13 per month subscription fee.

Headspace

Headspace offers several different meditation options; from suffering from anxiety to struggling in your relationship. The app has a free 10-day trial and paid subscriptions from $13 per month. It is usable by both iOS and Android devices.
