Whether you’re lactose-intolerant, trying to eat more plant-based, or have a dairy allergy, non-diary milks have become more popular than ever before. More and more people are switching to milk alternatives and there are so many options to choose from. With all the non-dairy milks out there, which ones are the healthiest?

Soy Milk

Soy milk is the most protein rich milk alternative with seven grams of protein per cup. In addition to protein you’re getting fiber, calcium, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Soy milk contains all essential amino acids and it’s the only milk alternative recognized by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Hemp Milk

This milk is a bit of an acquired taste and it’s known for it’s nutty flavor. Rich in unsaturated essential fatty acids, omega-3, and omega-6, one cup of hemp milk contains five grams of protein.

Almond Milk

If you’re looking for a milk to add to your coffee or smoothies, almond milk is the way to go. Although it’s low in calories, we don’t suggest making it your main source of milk because it only has one gram of protein per cup.

Oat Milk

As one of the most popular milk alternatives, oat milk has zero cholesterol and one gram of fiber per cup. It’s higher in sugar and calories than other alternatives, but if you have nut or soy allergies it’s a great choice.

Pistachio Milk

This relatively new milk to the market is a great source of dietary fiber, B vitamins, copper, potassium, and magnesium. Compared to other nut milks, it’s lower in calories and it has antioxidants.

In the year 2019, more and more people are turning vegetarian and vegan and are resorting to eating fewer dairy products. This list is for the people who are mostly vegan and who want to opt-out from milk. Each plant milk has its own benefits and we’re here to differentiate between them today.

Almond Milk

Almond milk is nutritious since it can help reduce the signs of heart diseases. It’s also tasty and delicious and leaves a nutty aftertaste in your mouth. It’s creamy just like cashew milk, but not too creamy, so it’s perfect for smoothies and oatmeal. For a healthy alternative – go for almond milk.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is one of the healthiest plant-based milks out there because of its high oil content, which also contains saturated fat. It’s most commonly used in tropical regions in Southeast Asia and even East Africa. These regions are well known for having great skin so maybe drinking coconut milk is their secret.

Cashew Milk

Cashews generally contain a lot of heart-healthy unsaturated fats and also make for great trail mix or just for a snack on the side. They are great for gaining better eye health and studies say that they can even help regulate blood pressure and control blood sugar levels. Cashew milk is more on the creamy side so it would be great for soup bases.

Dairy milk comes with a long list of benefits, but not everyone enjoys it. If you can’t handle lactose or simply want to find a healthier alternative to this tasty beverage, we’re here to help you out.

Cashew Milk

Cashew milk is worth a try since it happens to be an amazing source of fiber, copper, and magnesium, plus it’s super-tasty thanks to its amazing creamy structure.

Almond Milk

You don’t need us to tell you that the whole world is going crazy for this non-diary milk right now. Turns out they’re doing it for a good reason, since this one happens to have the highest level of calcium of all the similar milks on the market!

Growing up, I was taught that milk is a “perfect food” since it’s a source of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. My healthy breakfast during high school? Carnation Instant Breakfast stirred into a 16 ounce glass of skim milk. It’s no wonder that I still love having chocolate “milkshakes” for breakfast! 😂 (And to this day I wonder if my daily milk habit contributed to my horrible high school acne.) 🤔 • It wasn’t until I was 22 years old and started dating Austin (who was basically a vegan when we graduated from college) that I even considered drinking less than two HUGE GLASSES of milk each day. When I stopped drinking cow’s milk, I also realized how much BETTER I felt without it! • The hardest part about quitting milk for me was that the store-bought alternatives, like almond milk or soy milk, were either full or sugar or tasted just plain awful to me during the transition. HOMEMADE almond milk, however, is a totally different story! 😍 • In this video you can see how QUICK & EASY it is to make your own almond milk at home. Just blend almonds and water, then strain it! It tastes 100% better than the store bought stuff, and you can use the leftover almond pulp to make hummus or brownies, too. #winwin • The great thing about making your own almond milk at home is that YOU are in charge of the flavors. If you like a little sweetness, blend in some dates or maple syrup! You can even blend in a little cocoa powder for a delicious chocolate “milk." • Get my full almond milk tutorial by clicking on my profile link 👉 @detoxinista • • https://detoxinista.com/how-to-make-homemade-almond-milk/ • #almondmilk #dairyfree #veganrecipe #veganmilk #howtomake #dairyfreerecipes #dairyfreekids #acnetips #homemadealmondmilk #rawalmondmilk #paleorecipes #paleorecipe #veganrecipevideos #veganrecipeshare #feedfeedvegan #detoxinista #foodvideos #foodvideo

Coconut Milk

This alternative has that amazing creamy structure of your favorite cow milk, but it’s a much healthier option. Coconut milk is rich in saturated fat, which is easy for your digestive system to break down and use.
