]]>The journey toward body positivity starts with self-compassion. Instead of fixating on what you perceive as flaws or comparing yourself to others, try to treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you’d offer to a friend. Everyone has imperfections—inside and out—and they don’t define your worth. Focus on your strengths and the qualities that make you unique instead.
Your environment plays a major role in shaping your body image, especially when it comes to the content you consume. Follow accounts and creators that share body-positive messages that make you feel empowered, and unfollow or mute accounts that trigger negative self-perceptions. In daily life, try to surround yourself with people who uplift you and appreciate your inner qualities over physical appearance.
The mind and body are deeply connected, and engaging in activities that make you feel good physically will translate into improved self-image and wellbeing. Aim to do something to care for your body every day, whether it be practicing yoga, going for a walk, or taking a bath with your favorite essential oils.

]]>Coined by body image coach Anne Poirier, body neutrality encourages us to think about our bodies in terms of function rather than appearance. Instead of trying to love our bodies, no matter the size, or hate our bodies because we don’t conform to restrictive beauty standards, striving for body neutrality can be a more accessible way to find self-acceptance.
Instead of exercising to change the way our bodies look or punishing ourselves, body neutrality tells us to exercise to make our bodies FEEL good. Movement can be a way of connecting with our bodies, relieving stress, and finding enjoyment, rather than a painful means to a superficial end.
There are many benefits of body neutrality in relation to fitness. You may find that you are able to build a more sustainable fitness routine when you’re not focused on unattainable weight loss goals. You might start to enjoy exercise more and actually get fitter because you’re having fun!
Many people find that they also sustain fewer injuries when exercising with a body neutrality mindset because they are more in tune with what their bodies need and when to stop.

]]>The reality is, though, that our bodies fluctuate throughout the day. The problem is, when we only see those “perfectly” flat stomachs on social media, we might subconsciously feel insecure when our stomach looks different after eating a nourishing breakfast—even though it’s totally normal!
Thankfully, people are showing off their bellies before AND after eating, to show the world that it’s okay. We love that people are promoting “normal” bodies on social media because it helps spread body positivity. It also shines a light on the fact that most of what we see on social media is carefully curated and not always an accurate view of what people look like throughout the day.
These posts show the side-by-side of their stomach when they first wake up, and then after eating. You can see that there is a difference, often their stomachs are a bit more full or plump-looking, which makes sense because their stomachs are full of yummy food!

]]>It’s important to remember that fitness is certainly worthwhile, but only to the point that it makes you happy and feel good in your body. In making workout plans, try to also plan rest and a little indulgence into your week. Everything is best in moderation. Yes, that means rich foods and binge-watching TV–but it also means pushing yourself in the gym and sticking to a specific diet. Finding the balance between health and happiness means giving yourself permission to be lazy sometimes.
It’s okay to set yourself fitness goals, but try to be wary of how you do so. At the beginning of your journey, it’s tempting to go all-in and begin an intense regimen of diet and exercise. Not only can that lead to burnout fairly quickly, it’s also a recipe for shame when you break that regimen or don’t reach your goals as quickly as expected. Rather than starting off too intensely, try instead to find a routine that you can keep up sustainably which includes enjoyment and mental health safeguards.
It’s also important to not set too high of expectations; instead, try to see each day that you stick to your routine as a victory and let each new day be an opportunity to feel your best, regardless of how that may look to others.

]]>Any skin-safe oil will do; you can try oils like coconut, olive, or almond to start. Just be sure not to use anything you may have any allergy to. If you prefer not to use oil, foot cream or lotion will do. You just may need to add more from time to time. You may also want to wash your feet beforehand to avoid getting your hands dirty.
Begin by pouring a small amount of oil (about a teaspoon) into your hand. First, apply the oil in an upward motion along the length of the calf and then onto your foot. Use your thumbs to gently knead your calf from your ankle to your knee. Then use your thumbs to draw circles around your ankle and continue downward toward your heel. You can use your knuckles or the palm of your hand to massage the sole of the foot, spending a little extra time on any knots you may find. Finish up by gently massaging your toes one at a time before moving to the other foot.

]]>Triggers are different for everyone, but common ones include social media, celebrity images, and the dreaded scale. Stop looking to Instagram or on the cover of magazines for how you should look; these images are unrealistic and they often use filters and photoshop. Start following accounts that make you feel good about yourself.
This is as easy as refocusing your attention on what you do like about your body and learning to appreciate your body for all it’s able to do instead of ruminating on part of it that you wish were different. Your hips are thick for a reason, they’ll help your carry children when you’re ready to and that’s amazing!
We all have those clothes in the back of our closet that we keep just in case we lose that extra 10 pounds. It’s hard letting go of these things because we’re letting go of a part of our past, but you can really only move on when you part ways with these items. Donate these clothes to someone else who can give them a happy life.

At the Teen Vogue summit, the “Confident” singer said, “We hear the term body positivity all the time. To be honest, I don’t always feel positive about my body. Sometimes I do not like what I see. I don’t sit there and dwell on it. I also don’t lie to myself…All I have to say is ‘I’m healthy.’ In that statement, I express gratitude. I am grateful for my strength and things I can do with my body. I am saying I’m healthy and I accept the way my body is today without changing anything.”
The Superstore star has vowed to make her New Year’s resolution to be body positive. During an interview with US Weekly Ash said, “I just made a choice. My New Year’s resolution this year was to not speak negatively about my body to myself or to anyone else. It’s really been a mindset that’s been really positive for me, and I think that as women, especially, we’re very hard on ourselves. Trying to change that narrative and focusing on the things that you like is a really powerful tool.”
Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland has been very open about her health conditions and subsequent struggles. Recently, she took to Instagram to share how she deals with being insecure about her body following health procedures, “To my fellow #invisibleillness warriors. It’s ok to be insecure about your body. Just remember to check in with yourself at least once a day and say thank you. Our bodies have endured unfathomable feats that our minds barely have time to comprehend what has actually happened.”

Anna Victoria revealed she’s gained 10 lbs in the meantime, but she’s not letting the weight define her and her self-esteem is still intact.
“I love both bodies… Both are deserving of self-love. Your fitness ability and where you are in your journey doesn’t define you. This is an incredibly empowering journey that helps increase your confidence and self-love, and that should be true whether you’re 100% on track or not,” wrote the famous influencer in an empowering Instagram post.

]]>How many times have you considered or actually purchased those “detox teas” or other fitness fads? How much have you spent on a dressing-covered salad? The money you save from removing band-aid trends and overpriced “healthy” meals will make your wallet happy. You can use that money towards a gym membership, personal training, or a trip to a new country.
If you swap out convenient burgers and pizza for your main meals with meal-prepped eggs, tuna, chicken breast, and vitamin enriched salads, you’ll have the energy to perform at work and in your social life.
Working out is shown to relieve stress and other negative emotions. Pissed off by a coworker? Missed the bus and it ruined your day? It’s better to relieve stress on weights and machines than people you love or work with.
It’s proven that working out regularly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, and other diseases. Get that blood flowing, that oxygen in your lungs, and you’ll stave off that trip to the doctor.
