Hot yoga isn’t for everyone. However, it can be a great way to combine the benefits of yoga with added weight loss while also shaking up your regular yoga routine. Continue scrolling to check out some tips that will help you get the most out of your hot yoga sessions.

Start Hydrated and Stay Hydrated

Hot yoga will make you sweat a lot, causing your body to lose a lot of water. To avoid becoming dehydrated, you should drink a lot of water leading up to your hot yoga session and continue drinking water during it. This way you’ll minimize the negative impacts of sweating.

Prepare Extra Towels

You should equip yourself with extra towels ahead of the hot yoga session because you’ll need them. Wipe off the sweat frequently, especially off your face, because this will make the experience more bearable.

Dress Properly

Dressing properly is key to having a successful hot yoga session. You should wear comfortable clothes that don’t cover your body too much to allow it to breathe. Shorts and some variation of a crop top are your best bet.

Allow Your Body to Adapt to the Heat

Getting straight into a hot yoga session is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. You should sit back and relax in the heat for around 10 minutes before starting. This will allow your body to adapt to the heat and make your entire session easier to handle.

Learn to Take a Breather

It is essential to know when you’ve had enough and take a breather. As soon as you realize that your body is struggling or you feel lightheaded, give yourself a short break by sitting down or leaving the room.

A yoga mat is one of the must-have items you’ll need in your home gym, but you won’t be able to use the same one forever. Yoga mats have a limited lifespan, and they’ll wear out over time, but our brief guide can help yours last longer. Here are three useful tips and tricks that can extend the lifespan of your yoga mat.

Invest in Quality

Not all yoga mats are created equal, and investing in a quality yoga mat is a great long-term investment. The thicker your mat is, the more durable it’s going to be, and PVC mats are usually the most popular option due to their durability, even though they’re not as eco-friendly as some of the alternatives.

Proper Clean-Up

The way you clean your yoga mat makes all the difference, and it can significantly extend its lifespan. Make sure your hands and legs are clean before the workout, and remember to wipe, clean, and disinfect your mat after each use.

Proper Storage

Air drying your yoga mat before storing it is a must, and it’s the best way to prevent mildew and odors from taking hold. After drying your mat, roll it up tightly and store it in a dry and cool place, away from direct sunlight.

Many amazing yoga trends have emerged over the years, and walking yoga is the latest getting some steam. It does a great job mixing these two very different disciplines into one, and we’re here to help you decide if you should give it a shot.

What is Walking Yoga?

The term “walking yoga” experienced a true boom in recent months, but the practice of mixing these two activities into one has been around for quite some time. It has its roots in walking meditation, which has been around since the 1970s, and it’s all about synching your steps with your breathing while doing modified versions of yoga poses.

Benefits of Walking Yoga

Walking yoga can do wonders for your physical, mental, and emotional health, and that’s reason enough to give it a shot. It’s all about moving with intention, uniting body and mind, and enjoying the mindfulness and movement of yoga while also experiencing the benefits of walking. It will help you soothe your mind while also helping you burn some calories, and improve balance, flexibility, and joint health.

Should You Give it a Shot?

Walking yoga can benefit anyone who tries it, but you might feel hesitant about giving it a shot if yoga simply isn’t your thing. Luckily, walking yoga can be enjoyed by people who aren’t huge fans of traditional yoga because it’s more dynamic and involves a lot of movement.

Mastering yoga all on your own doesn’t come easy, so it comes in handy to have a good teacher to guide you on this path. Charlie Follows became a true internet sensation after she started sharing her yoga tutorials with the world, and she’ll help you discover its magic from the comfort of your home.

Follows kicked off her yoga journey back in 2016, when she was still studying furniture design at university. She started practicing yoga in her tiny student accommodation, using YouTube tutorials as inspiration, completely unaware she’ll have her own channel with over 900,000 subscribers in the future.

As Follows’ love for yoga grew, so did her knowledge, and she couldn’t wait to share it with other people.

“In the early days, I used to share what little I knew with family and friends, and although I never saw myself as a teacher, I decided to go and do my first vinyasa yoga teacher training after graduation. Fast forward a few years and I was teaching all over my hometown, and had a few years of experience under my belt,” she wrote on her official website.

Once the demand for her classes reached a fever pitch, teaching over 15 classes a week became unsustainable, and she decided to start sharing her workouts on social media. They’re created with yogis of different levels in mind and Follows offers several types of paid yoga programs, in addition to sharing free workouts on YouTube.

Yoga is one of those activities you can do without any extra pieces of equipment, but adding yoga blocks to the mix can take your workouts to new heights. If you still haven’t tried implementing them into your yoga routine, here are three reasons why it’s a good idea to add them to the mix.

Better Support

One of the main reasons why people swear by yoga blocks is the amazing support they can provide. They can help you master some challenging poses you couldn’t do otherwise by giving you a relatively stable surface, giving you a major confidence boost in the process.

Flexibility & Balance

Yoga blocks can do wonders for your flexibility and balance. They can help you master proper alignment and ease into certain poses, improving your flexibility along the way. Your sense of balance will also improve when you’re doing yoga with yoga blocks, and you can even build strength by engaging your core.

Switching Things Up

Yoga blocks can also help you switch up your workouts when your regular routine gets stale. If you’re tired of doing the same old thing all over again, using yoga blocks is a great way to add some newness to your routine when you’re craving a positive change.

Have you ever seen a picture or video of someone doing yoga and wondered “How is this different from regular stretching?” Stretching and yoga are sometimes practiced interchangeably, but they’re actually two distinct forms of exercise. While both involve stretching the body and neither is better than the other, they differ in terms of techniques used as well as an overall approach. Here are some of the methods and benefits that set yoga and stretching apart.

Focus on the Breath

The most significant difference between yoga and regular stretching is that yoga puts a specific emphasis on breathwork. Breathing techniques, or pranayama, are integrated with physical postures to increase energy flow and promote relaxation. In contrast, breathwork is not typically emphasized in traditional stretching routines.

Level of Intensity

Stretching is generally considered to be a low-impact activity that can be done by people of all ages and fitness levels. Yoga, on the other hand, can range from gentle and restorative to intense and challenging, especially when a class involves advanced poses such as handstands.

Mind vs. Body

Stretching and yoga can each be done alone or in a group setting, though yoga often emphasizes community and connection with the world around us. Many yoga classes also incorporate elements of spirituality and philosophy, making it a more comprehensive mind-body practice than stretching alone.

A hip opening pose is a yoga asana that stretches the muscles around the hip joint and pelvis, including the glutes, hamstrings, inner thighs, groin, and core. Common hip opener poses include Happy Baby, Pigeon Pose, Goddess Pose, Prayer Squat, and Wide-Legged Forward Fold.

Release Stress

Hip openers activate muscles related to our stress response, such as the psoas. It is thought that stretching and strengthening these muscles can help rid us of negative stored emotions and release stress. Don’t be surprised if you start feeling emotional while doing a hip-opening pose.

Improve Alignment

Hip openers help improve the alignment of the joints of the lower back, hips, and legs. When your hips are tight and stiff from sitting at a desk all day, this can cause pain and misalignment in your back and legs. Improving your alignment can help reduce aches and pains and improve balance, posture, and mobility. This can also help you master more advanced yoga poses and deepen your practice.

Increase Creativity

In traditional yoga philosophy, hip openers are also thought to activate your sacral chakra—the creative center of your body. By focusing on this area, you may nurture your creativity and allow yourself to birth new ideas!

Yoga offers a myriad of benefits that go beyond physical fitness. From increased flexibility to enhanced mental clarity, yoga has the potential to transform your life in remarkable ways. But if you’re still hesitant to get into this trendy hobby, here are four of the amazing benefits that await you on the yoga mat.

Harmony of Mind and Body

Yoga is a harmonious union of physical postures, breath control, and meditation. It provides a holistic approach to wellness by integrating mind, body, and spirit. Through regular practice, you can experience a profound sense of connection and balance within yourself, fostering a deep understanding of your body’s needs.

Increased Flexibility and Strength

One of the immediate physical benefits of yoga is improved flexibility. As you flow through various poses, you gently stretch and lengthen your muscles, gradually increasing your range of motion.

Stress Reduction and Mental Clarity

Yoga offers a sanctuary where you can escape the chaos and cultivate mindfulness. Through focused breathing and meditation, yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.

Improved Energy and Vitality

Regular yoga practice stimulates energy flow throughout the body, leaving you feeling invigorated and revitalized. The combination of movement, deep breathing, and mindfulness activates the body’s natural energy centers, promoting a sense of vitality.
