How Your Expectations Can Rob You of Your Happiness

You may think that you are good at predicting how various situations will make you feel, but scientists disagree. A study published in Science magazine showed that newlyweds are really bad at estimating their levels of happiness after four years of marriage. There are many other examples that confirm that we tend to be bad in predicting things and that our expectations can negatively affect our happiness levels over time.

Sometimes, we expect that achieving a certain goal will bring us much more than it actually does, which can leave us feeling unsatisfied despite the achievement.

It’s easy to get used to what you have and always strive for more, thinking that you just need a little bit more to become truly happy. But at some point, you’ll realize that the true key to happiness is not to expect too much and enjoy the little things along the way.

A big part of this problem is the use of social media in today’s world. Seeing other people’s seemingly perfect lives sets unrealistic expectations that ultimately lead to an unhappy life.
