Most people are not getting the recommended amount of sleep, whether that is due to stress, children or just staying up too late and scrolling on your phone. When you don’t get enough sleep, this can affect your mental sharpness, mood, productivity and food choices the next day. Melatonin has been the most popular natural sleep aid, but magnesium is also a really good supplement to take before bed.

How does it help?

Magnesium is a mineral that can help control blood glucose, blood pressure regulation, muscle and nerve function, and so much more. It also plays an important role in converting protein into the chemicals that helps you to slow the nervous system down and help you to feel sleepier.

Melatonin is a known supplement to help relax your muscles, so for those who suffer with restless leg syndrome, or you have tightness from your workouts, magnesium is better in helping to alleviate that.

Where can you find it?

You don’t necessarily need to take a supplement as magnesium can be found in a lot of foods in your diet. If you aren’t eating a balanced diet, you might want to have a blood test to check if you are deficient. Magnesium can be found in almonds, spinach, peanut butter, avocado, bananas and lots of dairy products.

Fruits are known as some of the healthiest things you could possibly eat—as long as you don’t go overboard. Despite their many health benefits, some of our favorite fruits should be eaten in moderation.

Avocados

Most people can’t imagine starting their day without an avocado toast. If that’s the case with you, try stopping after one or two slices because avocados are very high in fat.

Bananas

Bananas are another healthy fruit most people have on their daily menu, but you shouldn’t go overboard with them. Most of their calorie content comes from carbs, and they’re packed with sugar.

Mangos

Mangos are known for their irresistible sweet taste, and it’s not hard to see why. One cup of mangos contains 23 grams of sugar, making them one of the fruits with the highest sugar content.

Coconuts

Coconuts and coconut-derived products are also best consumed in small doses. In addition to being packed with calories, they also contain a high level of saturated fat.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp chia seeds, ground
  • 1 cup yogurt

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Grind your chia seeds which will increase the smoothie’s thickness.

  3. Then, add the rest of the ingredients: yogurt, frozen bananas, peanut butter, and vanilla extract. Blend it all together for one minute.
  4. Scrape down the chunks that didn’t blend and again, give it a good blend for another 30 to 45 seconds, or until it becomes smooth.

It’s impossible to find a list of the best pre-workout foods without bananas in the top spot. They are the perfect mix of glucose, fructose, and sucrose that you need before hitting the gym, and you’re seriously missing out if they’re not a part of your menu.

Bananas are one of the healthiest sources of essential nutrients you need before a workout. They will provide you with just enough natural sugars that serve as a primary source of energy. In order to be effective, you should probably give your body some time to process them. It’s best to consume this fruit around 30 minutes to an hour before working out.

According to a study conducted by the University of North Carolina, athletes who ate a banana before big events tended to recover 50% faster. Study author David Nieman recommends replacing sugary sports drinks with this fruit since it’s a much healthier option. Unlike a bottle of Gatorade, this tasty snack is bundled with good things, such as potassium and vitamin C.

Grabbing a banana on your way to the gym is the fastest option, but you can easily include it in other meals. In addition to being a powerhouse of nutrients, bananas are also great with your smoothies and fruit salads. No matter what you mix them up with, the effect will always be the same. You’ll get a super tasty and healthy meal at the same time!

Healthy and tasty snacks are so hard to find. Also, fast recipes are even harder. This one for baked banana chips is healthy, simple, and anyone can make it. It’s made of two ingredients, and you probably have both at home. The chips are the best thing to have before a workout.

Ingredients:

You only need two ingredients to prepare the baked banana chips. The first one is 1 banana and 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice. Make sure that the banana is ripe but firm.

Instructions:

Set the oven to 225 F degrees before you start. Get a pan and line it with parchment paper. The first thing you need to do is peel the banana. You should slice it into pieces that are 1/16 to 1/8th inch. Start putting them on the baking sheet in a single layer. You should make sure that the pieces don’t touch.

Get a brush and dip it in the lemon juice. Go over the banana slices with the brush. Leave the banana chips to bak for 2 hours, then turn them to the other side. When they become crispy you can take them out and serve them. If you feel like they are still not done, bake for 15 extra minutes.

Staying energetic for 24/7 is pretty much impossible, but healthy food choices could get you there. Here are a few tasty snacks you should try whenever you need an energy booster.

Hummus

This Mediterranean dip is great for you since it contains several energizing ingredients, including pureed garbanzo beans, sesame-based tahini, olive oil, and lemon juice.

Bananas

Bananas are one of the best pre- or post-workout snacks on the market because they’re filled with healthy sugars and fibers your body needs to keep on going.

Oranges

Just like the rest of citrus fruits, oranges are rich in vitamin C and have the power to ration out your energy over time, instead of giving you a quick boost.

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is a supercharged breakfast or snack option because it contains a significant amount of magnesium – an element crucial for the release of energy.

Salmon

You’re doing your body a huge favor by eating salmon since this rich-tasting fish just happens to have a high content of omega-3 fatty acids. In addition to being great for your health in the long run, salmon is also an amazing energy booster.

If you are a fan of thicker smoothies, we have a great recipe for you. To get the desired consistency you need to use frozen fruit and ground chia seeds. Chia seeds are great for your health; they contain omega-3.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp chia seeds, ground
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Grind your chia seeds which will increase the smoothie’s thickness.
  2. In a dry blender add chia seeds and process into powder. It’s important that your blender is dry, otherwise, the seeds will stick to the sides.
