When it comes to meal planning it can seem overwhelming and too much work, but it’s all about having the right ingredients and kitchen gadgets. Here are four must-have kitchen gadgets for meal planning.

Storage Containers

Storage containers are a lifesaver when it comes to meal planning. You are able to distribute the food evenly for each meal and store it correctly in the fridge and freezer, to help it last. Make sure you have at least seven different-sized containers that you will use for your protein, whole grains, fruits, and veggies.

Immersion Blender

For all soup lovers, you need an immersion blender. This gadget can blend your dish in five minutes, it’s great for soups, dressings, and sauces, and doesn’t take up much space in the kitchen.

Spiralizer

A spiralizer is a kitchen gadget game changer for those who want to lower their carb consumption. This little machine will spiralize any vegetable into spaghetti. It will save you time chopping and grating veggies. Just put the vegetable in, turn it a few times and you have zucchini zoodles ready to be cooked.

Crockpot

For those who work full-time and don’t have much time to cook, a crockpot is one of the best kitchen gadgets around. It might take up a little more space but it can cook amazing meals at the switch of a button. Put in your ingredients in the morning, and by dinner, you will have a piping hot meal.

Gone are the days of good or bad foods, a list of restrictions, and low-fat or low-calorie diets. If you want to upgrade your diet so it’s healthier and balanced, the best way to do this is to start including more variety of whole foods in your meals.

Crowd Out

You don’t need to overcomplicate it—you want to find a way that your diet fits easily into your life, without overthinking it. Restricting the foods that you love will only end in failure, but filling up on nutritious and delicious foods and crowding out the fried or sweet foods will help you in the long run.

Do not list foods as good or bad as this will increase your want for the so-called ‘bad foods,’ while making you resent or get bored by the ‘good foods’.

Small Changes

Start making small changes each week that are consistent and sustainable. Make a weekly goal and start adding to that every week. Your first goal could be to cook more at home, then add more vegetables to your plate. You could start trying out different whole grains or proteins and eating fruits you have avoided for a while.

Schedule

Have a day each week you do your grocery shopping and meal prep. You can make some whole grains and protein dishes for the week and cut up your veggies to go in salads or roasted in the oven. It will stop you from ordering in or obsessing about foods you ‘can’t’ eat. You want to always make sure you are organized and you don’t need to worry about your meals.

Eating healthily is much easier when you have someone to join you on your journey, but things can get tough when you’re doing it on your own. Preparing healthy meals for one can be difficult, but these three tips will help you make it easier.

Avoid Takeout

Takeout is one of the biggest enemies of a healthy diet, but it’s easy to fall for it when you live alone. Cooking for a single person may seem like too much trouble, but it can be good for both your health and your wallet because ordering takeout can turn into an expensive habit.

Reusing Leftovers

If you don’t have enough time to cook a single meal that you’re going to eat in one sitting, you can always prepare a double dose and leave leftovers for tomorrow. You’ll save a lot of time and energy this way, especially if you opt for healthy meals that taste just as delicious when reheated.

Healthy Staples

Your grocery store trips will determine how healthy your diet is going to be. Instead of buying a bunch of unhealthy snacks, make sure to stock up on healthy staples. You probably won’t feel like hitting the grocery store whenever you need something and the healthy foods in your pantry will be all you have left.

We use all sorts of different motivational tools to stay committed to our fitness routine. If you’re struggling to have regular morning workouts, preparing everything you need the night before is a surpassingly great motivational trick.

No Excuses

We’ve all planned a morning workout and decided to bail on it after waking up at least once. Preparing your workout clothes and gym essentials the night before will make it more difficult to skip your workout because you’ll feel bad about your lack of discipline.

Increased Efficiency

Packing your gym bag in advance will also increase your efficiency in the morning. You’ll be ready to go from the moment your alarm starts buzzing because you won’t have to waste any time packing for your workout and picking your outfit.

Healthy Routine

Preparing everything you need the night before doesn’t only include your workout clothes and gym bag. You should also prep your meal and pre-workout snacks if possible so you wouldn’t end up exercising on an empty stomach.

Meal prepping helps you structure your meals and snacks while making sure you reach your macronutrient and calorie goals, but eating the same meals all the time can take away the excitement from food and it may lead you to eat comfort foods. But, meal prep doesn’t have to be boring and you don’t have to eat the same foods over and over again. With these tips and a bit of creativity, you can make meal prep more enjoyable.

Try New Protein Sources

Have you been eating a lot of chicken breast and hard-boiled eggs? It’s time to try new proteins like shrimp, beef, lamb, salmon, and tuna. Try mixing in some plant-based proteins like chickpeas, black beans, and lentils.

Sauces

Add more flavor to your dishes with some store-bought or homemade sauces. Chimichurri sauce, Greek yogurt, tahini, Green Goddess dressings, peanut sauces, and pestos are all great choices.

New Cuisines

Instead of ordering takeaway, change the type of cuisine you’re cooking every week. Start trying Mexican, Korean, Italian, Greek, Thai, Japanese, and Chinese-inspired recipes. Experiment with spices and herbs for more flavor.

Meal prep is a useful habit that helps many people eat better. Meal prep is especially great for taking food to work when you want to avoid getting fast food or expensive meals out. But is it a good idea to keep practicing it now that you’re working from home? Here are 3 reasons why you should consider it.

Reduce Stress

The pandemic and the new reality that comes with it are making our lives stressful, and it’s a good idea to stick to the routines you have that are good for you. If you’ve been meal prepping before, do your best to continue doing it so you don’t have the additional stress of thinking about what to cook.

Eat Healthier

Meal prep is the easiest way to introduce healthy ingredients without overthinking it. When you prepare meals in advance, your only option is to eat it, which makes healthy eating easier. You can change the recipes from week to week or keep rotating your favorites.

Less Frequent Grocery Shopping

Grocery shopping is a public activity that puts you in the risk of catching coronavirus, so meal prep can help you stay organized and only shop once every week or every two weeks instead of every day.

Meal prepping can seem like more trouble than it’s worth—you have to take time out of your relaxing weekend to food shop and prep for the week ahead. The other alternative isn’t much better—coming home from work and food shopping when you’re hungry and cooking after a long day at the office. Meal prepping is actually a fantastic solution to those who don’t want to food shop and cook everyday. You cook for a few hours on your weekend or one evening during the week for the meals ahead. Then you divide the food into containers that you can heat up when you want to a meal.

Purchase Containers

Before you start you want to make sure you have enough reusable food storage containers to keep your prepared food fresh and tasty.

Choose a Meal to Prep

If you generally skip dinner due to laziness or eat out most nights then this is probably the best meal for you to prep for. You won’t have to think about what you want to eat as it will be in your fridge ready for you to heat up and enjoy. Choose a day to do the cooking and decide how many meals you are making. Some people don’t like to eat the same meal for five days.

Choose Foods that are Good for Meal prep

Frozen vegetables are really great to add to your prep dishes, they taste the same and are as healthy as fresh vegetables. So start with a selection of frozen vegetables for your dish. Starchy vegetables like sweet potatoes and parsnips are also delicious and they add some healthy carbs. Whole grains, pulses, and lean protein are all great foods to cook and eat throughout the week.

Prep Your Snacks

If you find yourself feeling hungry in the middle of the day, make sure you have healthy prepared snacks available so you don’t eat the chocolate bar.

Meal prep can be very useful if you don’t have a lot of time for cooking throughout the week, but if you keep repeating the same recipes over and over again, it can get boring. The most common mistake people make is forgetting that they can freeze their meals and instead, they focus on foods that can stay in the fridge for several days. Here are our best tips for frozen meal prep.

Separate Portions

It may be convenient to just pour the leftovers in a plastic container, put the lid on, and throw it in the freezer. But if there’s plenty of food left, you definitely want to separate it into portions. This will allow you to grab a single portion when you’re hungry and have no time to cook and you’ll thank your past self for it!

Thaw Food in the Fridge

Whenever you have the time, you should take out frozen food in advance and let it thaw in the fridge, as this is the safest way to do it. Be careful when defrosting food at room temperature, especially during summer, because of the potential bacteria growth.

Freeze Fresh Herbs

Nothing can give your meals a natural flavor boost as fresh herbs can. Unfortunately, they don’t last very long in their fresh form, but you can freeze them and use them at any time!
