You know how some people wake up early in the morning just to get their workout done before they even start the day? Well, not everyone is that kind of person, and if you’d rather work out at night, we can give you at least three reasons why that’s awesome.

Better Sleep

Working out in the evening can you help you sleep better and longer. Better sleep, intern, will help your body recover and your muscles grow, which will lead to better and faster fitness results. Additionally, you will have more energy throughout the day.

Lower Blood Pressure

According to a study by the Journal of Strength Conditioning Research, people who train at night have lower blood pressure than those who work out in the morning. This may not be too important to you right now, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind in the future.

Boosted Muscle Growth

We already explained how your muscles can benefit from added rest when you work out in the evening and that it can help you sleep better, but there’s another component to this. Your testosterone levels are higher at night, which also boosts muscle growth when you exercise at that time.

Like any other type of exercise, late night workouts have their pros and cons. They can improve your performance and help you blow off some steam at the end of a long day, but that’s not always the case. If you’re struggling with one of these three issues, it’s probably time to stop scheduling your workouts late at night.

Sleep Problems

Working out before bed can lead to better sleep, but it can also disrupt it. If you’re having trouble falling asleep or waking up in the middle of the night, keep in mind these problems may be caused by the intense workouts that you’re doing late at night.

No Consistency

It’s much easier to build consistency with morning workouts since it’s harder to bail on them. Scheduling your workouts late at night can be risky because you’ll be tempted to skip them after a long day and it’s difficult to stick to them in the long run.

Lack of Motivation

In addition to being too tired to hit the gym before bed, there’s also a chance you’ll lack the motivation to do it. You’ll be forced to work out on your own most of the time and you’ll struggle to find a workout buddy to keep you accountable.

Many people are either set on working out in the morning or working out at night. But, for some of us, exercising before work isn’t possible, especially during the summer. In the summer, running in the morning or during the day isn’t ideal as it’s way too hot outside. Whether you’re new to working out in the evening or are trying to boost your nighttime workout, these tips will help you get the most out of your workout at night.

Start After Sunset

In the summer during the day, the hot temperatures make it almost unbearable to run. The heat causes your heart to work harder, decreasing your endurance. Try running after dusk to maximize your workout.

Build Up a Tolerance

Within three to four sessions, you body will acclimate to the humidity. To get used to the heat, ease into working out a night with a few light exercise sessions and keep your pace a little slower than usual.

Dinner Time

Trying to decide what and when to eat before evening exercises can be difficult. It’s best to eat something light before you exercise that has carbs and protein. If you’re used to eating an early dinner, eat part of your dinner before your run and save the rest for after.

Warm Up

Before you head out, make sure you warm up and stretch for around 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow your muscles to prepare for a run and your eyes to adjust to the dark.

Quality wise, this isn’t the best picture, but thanks to night mode I was able to get a shot that captures a few of my own running quirks, or “runnerisms” as I like to call them. – One: I’m a night runner. This doesn’t mean I won’t get out during the day. In all honesty, there’s nothing I enjoy more than getting out in the middle of a sunny afternoon. Unfortunately that isn’t always an option. So, given the choice between getting up early or going out late, I’ll choose late every time. Especially now it’s nice… there are a lot less people to have to try and maneuver around at 10 PM. – Two: I rock the half tights. I remember in high school being self conscious about wearing tights without anything over top of them, but the college years broke me of that. Now they are my preferred choice for training and my go-to short for racing. – Three: I tuck the shirt to run. Seriously,it drives me nuts to feel my shirt flapping around while I’m running. This is especially important to me when choosing an outfit to race in. If the singlet isn’t long enough to stay tucked in, I’m not going to race in it. – Do you have any “runnerisms” of your own? – Let me now in the comments! – #runnerisms #runningquirks #nighttimerun #nighttimerunner #nightrun #runninginthedark #gettingtherunin #betterlatethannever #runnersofinstagram #dontcallitacomebackyet #stillrunning #oncearunneralwaysarunner #nightmode #runphilly #runphillystyle #runningtshirt #run610 #runwalk #runwalkrun #buildingslowly #buildingslowlybutsurely #smallvictories #hamstringstretch #ineedtostretchmore #postrunstretch #runleisure #running #runningagain #shorttights #runningtights

Wear Proper Gear

When running or biking outside at night, make sure you wear reflective materials to ensure that drivers can see you when it’s dark outside. The reflectivity on your clothes should be on the parts of your body that will be moving the most.
