If you’re looking to change your life from a fitness standpoint, you may be looking to get a personal trainer. This is a path that so many people have gone down, and it definitely may be the right option for you. The question is, is it? Here’s what you should consider before making this choice.

Your Self-Accountability

Are you the kind of person that’s really good at holding yourself accountable for things? If so, you actually might not need a personal trainer. That’s not to say that a trainer wouldn’t be able to teach you things, but you might be able to learn that necessary information on your own. A big part of a trainer’s job is holding you accountable, so if you’ve already covered that base, you’ve done half the work.

Your Experience Level

Of course, there are some people who are so clueless when it comes to fitness that getting a personal trainer is really the only way to set them on the right path. Some people are good at picking things up from YouTube videos or other things like that, but some people really need that personal touch. If that’s you, then you could definitely benefit from getting a trainer.

When it comes to embarking on a successful workout routine, one of the best ways to do it is to hire a personal trainer. However, when most people think of personal trainers, they generally think of them as helping out in a face-to-face manner. After all, it’s a lot easier for the trainer to show you how to properly do the exercises when they’re in the same room as you. However, with the remote trend on the upswing, is it possible to have a remote personal trainer?

Yes, But At a Price

As cliche as it may sounds, at the end of the day anything is possible. There’s no one stopping you from getting a personal trainer that tells you what you need to over video calls, but you’re losing something in the process. Trust us when we say that it makes a world of a difference when the trainer is actually with you.

Certain Exceptions

However, there are certain cases in which having a remote personal trainer might be beneficial. If this trainer is someone who you trust, who you know for a fact is the best trainer for you, then go for it. In this case, the fact that they’re far away isn’t the biggest hurdleโ€”because you’ve already connected with them and thus they’re able to influence you from afar.

If you’re starting to work out, you might be wondering where you should get training advice from. There are many different paths you can follow, and two very common ones include either getting a trainer or watching YouTube clips. These are both excellent options, but one of them has a clear advantage. Here’s why getting a trainer, while more expensive, is by far a much better way to go.

That Personal Touch

When you have a personal trainer, they’re able to customize their approach to you. Sure, they have their concrete methods, but they’re able to guide you on your path based on the kind of person you are. With YouTube clips, there’s no one interacting with you in real-time. No one to see if you’re doing it wrong. No one to give you that personal touch that only a fellow human can provide.

Accountability

This leads us to our next point, which is that a personal trainer can also provide you with accountability. This means that when you’re not feeling motivated and want to quit, the trainer will push you to keep going. Your trainer will be waiting on you to ensure that you’re doing your job, whereas a series of YouTube clips will remain static and unchanged regardless of what you do.

Whether or not you need a personal trainer depends on your circumstances, goals, and preferences. Many individuals successfully achieve their fitness goals without a personal trainer by utilizing other resources such as online workouts, group fitness classes, or self-guided programs. Ultimately, it comes down to personal preference, budget, and the level of support and guidance you feel you need. Here are a few reasons why personal trainers are important.

Experience and Knowledge

If you are new to exercise or have specific fitness goals, a personal trainer can provide valuable guidance. They have the expertise to design a workout program tailored to your needs, teach you proper form and technique, and ensure you’re performing exercises safely and effectively.

Accountability and Motivation

Some individuals find it challenging to stay motivated and consistent with their fitness routine. A personal trainer can provide the accountability and support needed to stay on track. They can help you set realistic goals, track progress, and provide encouragement to keep going.

Injury Prevention

If you have a history of injuries or health concerns, working with a personal trainer can be beneficial. They can modify exercises to accommodate your limitations, teach you proper warm-up and cool-down techniques, and help prevent injuries.

Variety and Progression

Personal trainers can introduce new exercises and training techniques to keep your workouts fresh and challenging. They can also help you progress gradually, ensuring you continue to see results and avoid plateaus.

Time and Convenience

For those with busy schedules, having a personal trainer can be a time-efficient solution. They can help maximize your workout time and provide efficient, effective workouts.

Fitness trends are about as popular as ever, from eating right to adopting stellar workout techniques. This means that countless people have become somewhat experts in the field of training themselves and training others for that matter. However, it can sometimes be hard to know which people are truly expert trainers, and which ones are putting on a show without real knowledge. So how are you supposed to know if a trainer is legitimate? Here are some ways to check.

Cross-Reference

One of the best ways to check if a trainer can truly get the job done is get references. Ask the trainer for the contact info of other people theyโ€™ve trained, and get in touch with them. Even a five-minute phone convo with one of their former clients can be all you need to reassure you that this trainer is for you.

Free Trial

Even better than cross-referencing is asking the trainer for a free trial. Not every trainer offers one, but if youโ€™re able to convince them to grant it, it can give you all the info you need to proceed with your decision. Think of it as taking a sample slice of what they have to offer with no risk. You have nothing to lose, and if the trainer delivers, then you can comfortably give them your money afterward.

With fitness trends skyrocketing through the roof, one profession that has emerged is that of the personal trainer. The gig has always existed, but it’s definitely become a lot more common today. This is highlighted by the point that there are many people who aren’t officially certified to be one and still run their own training businesses. This, naturally, begs the following question: do you really need to be certified to be a trainer?

The Short Answer is No

You really do not need to be certified to be a trainer, at least not from a legal standpoint. If you believe you have what it takes to help someone reach their fitness goals, there’s truly nothing legally stopping you from selling your services to others. Now, while legally that might be totally cool, the next question is whether or not morally it’s a good idea.

To answer that, one must really question the credibility of the training certification itself. If you ask many within the fitness community, they’ll maintain that the training certification doesn’t mean much and that it’s more of a formality. Furthermore, some trainers are truly talented and may have a hard time getting a certificate for personal reasons.

This leads us to our final point, which is that a certificate really means very little when it comes to finding a good trainer. If someone is able to help you get real workout results, then who cares whether or not they have a silly little paper to prove their credentials?

Have you ever run into a situation where you need to “break up” with your trainer? Unfortunately, this can be just as awkward as it is to break up with a significant other. At the same time, there are specific ways to do it so as not to hurt their feelings, or even create a bad reputation for yourself within the gym circles. If you’re looking to end a trainee-trainer relationship, here’s the best way to do it without creating bad blood.

Keep It Strictly Professional

There seems to be a trend nowadays where trainers like to develop personal bonds with their trainees, but this is a one-way ticket to disaster, especially if you run into a situation like this where you want to end it with them. That’s why if you need to fire them, explain that everything about your decision is strictly professional. It’s their style you don’t vibe with, not their personality (we trust you to figure out a way to convey that those two things aren’t actually the same thing).

You Can Still Be Their Friend

Perhaps the best way to “break up” with your trainer is to keep things light, and if done right, maybe you can even stay friends with them. If you were already tight with one another, maybe this can be a way to solidify the idea that this truly was just a professional disparity, and you’d be totally cool with grabbing a protein shake with them someday.

Personal trainers can be an incredibly useful tool for helping you get started on your fitness journey or teaching you the skills you need to know to meet your goals. But sometimes, you start to wonder if it might be time to stop seeing your trainer and start trying to do it on your own. Here are some ways that you can know that it might be time to call it quits with your trainer.

  • Your training sessions feel like the same thing again and again, and you’re not getting anywhere or learning anything new.
  • Your trainer doesn’t listen to you when you say that you want to change something about your routine.
  • Your trainer pays more attention to their phone during a session than they do to you.
  • You don’t find your trainer motivating.
  • Even worse, you find your trainer demotivating.
  • You aren’t getting any closer to your goals.
  • Your trainer cancels sessions on you at the last minute with little to no warning.
  • You find yourself wanting to cancel sessions at the last minute because you don’t actually want to be there.
  • You feel ready to get out there and do it by yourself.

Working with a personal trainer is one of the best and most effective ways to achieve your goals in a relatively short period of time. People who are hiring a trainer for the first time probably donโ€™t know what to look for, so here are a few signs that could tell you that a personal trainer youโ€™ve chosen is actually good.

Your Trainer Is Focused

Trainers who like to chat too much or who are constantly texting or taking calls during workouts are certainly not very dedicated and focused. If your trainer is focused, that is definitely a good sign because he’ll spot all your mistakes and give you good advice.

Your Trainer Motivates You

A good trainer will always know how to motivate you to give your best during workouts or, after all, he will inspire you to go to the gym even when youโ€™re tired or not in the mood for exercising.

Your Trainer Demonstrates Each Exercise

Keep in mind that a good trainer should always demonstrate each exercise before you actually perform it because this is one of the most important things for perfecting your form.

Your Trainer Is Creative

A good trainer knows that repeating the same exercises for a long time is not very effective and it cannot lead to actual results, and therefore they are always creative when making a workout program.

Despite the fact that home workouts have become extremely popular over the last two years, there are still some things that we can only achieve by working with a personal trainer. People often wonder whether or not they should hire a personal trainer, so today weโ€™re talking about benefits that only a personal trainer can provide.

Education

The most important thing that every good personal trainer has to offer is his experience and knowledge. Working with a professional is the best way to perfect your form and learn everything there is about fitness.

Setting Goals

Setting realistic short-term and long-term goals is the most important thing for beginners because this is the only way to make real progress. Most beginners usually have trouble with this first step though, but a personal trainer can help you with that.

Achieving Goals

Reaching your fitness goal is obviously the hardest part of the fitness journey, and thatโ€™s why the role of a personal trainer is crucial here. A trainer will design a workout program that will help you achieve your goals in a short period of time.

Accountability

At one point on our fitness journey, we all need someone to keep us accountable and motivate us to work hard, and thatโ€™s why the role of a trainer is very important.
