While exercise is a crucial part of boosting your fitness, adopting a healthy diet is just as important. Smoothies can prove to be both healthy and delicious beverages that fit in ideally with your healthy lifestyle. Here are some easy-to-make smoothies for a nutrition boost between your workouts.

Breakfast Super Shake

You are probably familiar with protein powders, but do you know about greens powders? These dietary supplements are used by many wellness enthusiasts to boost their daily intake of essential vitamins and minerals. But are they worth the investment? Let’s dive in!

What are Greens Powders?

Greens powders are made from concentrated extracts of leafy greens, seaweed, fruits, herbs, nutritional extracts and fruits. Just like protein powders, they can be mixed with smoothies, juices or water to boost the nutrient content.

Greens powders vary by brand but they are usually made with organic, sustainable and vegan ingredients.

What are the Pros & Cons of Greens Powders?

Greens powders may offer many benefits. They can be a great source of iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iodine, selenium and potassium. They are also a quick and easy way to get more nutrients without having to eat a ton of greens, or spend lots of time prepping veggies.

However, greens powders shouldn’t replace actual fresh greens in your diet. Because they are made from dried and processed veggies, greens powders do not contain all the fiber that you get from eating leafy greens. Fiber is essential for healthy digestion.

Greens powders also vary a lot from brand to brand so do your research before choosing which is the right supplement for you!

No healthy diet is complete without some delicious smoothies, but you should be pretty careful when picking the ingredients for yours. You’ll diminish the healthy properties of your smoothies if you pack them with the wrong ingredients, and it all starts with picking the best possible liquid base.

Water

Smoothies made with water are your safest bet, and they’ll be as healthy as it gets because this ingredient is calorie-free. Unfortunately, this is water’s only upside and most people avoid using it as their liquid base or combine it with other liquids because it doesn’t add flavor to your smoothies.

Milk

Milk is the most popular liquid base for smoothies because it can make them perfectly creamy and delicious. Unfortunately, dairy milk will also add extra calories and fat to your smoothies, and that’s why many people prefer replacing it with plant-based alternatives.

Juice

You may be tempted to add some juice to your smoothies to boost their flavor, but you should avoid this liquid base at all costs. Freshly squeezed juice is the only healthy option, while store-bought juices are best avoided because they’re usually packed with sugar and artificial flavorings.

Waking up in the morning with a dry throat and no voice is awful—all you will want to do is roll over and go back to sleep until you feel better. But actually, you should try to eat nutrient-dense foods to load up on vitamins and minerals. These foods will help your sore throat feel better.

Yogurt

Not only is yogurt a good source of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats, as well as probiotic bacteria, it’s easy to swallow with a soft texture. A pot of yogurt when you have a sore throat will fulfill all your needed macros and it will help you to feel better.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is rich in magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants, which will help to rid the body of infection. It’s also filling and soft to eat.

Fruit Smoothies

Fruit smoothies are a great way to get tons of vitamins and minerals into your body in one glass. Kale, celery, and berries are great additions to fight your sore throat. Add an orange for some vitamin C and use some crushed ice to soothe the pain away.

Apples

Apples are an anti-inflammatory food and are packed with fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants, so can help reduce inflammation in the throat and speed up recovery. Sugar-free applesauce also does the trick if it is too painful to bite into an actual apple.

You’ve seen the ads about green protein powder and watched influencers add it to their smoothies, water, or acai bowls—whatever they can get their hands on. They claim to offer a one stop shop for you to consume all your essential vitamins and minerals. But are they worth the hype?

They are made from a variety of leaves and fruits which are dried out and ground up. Spirulina and chlorella, are often added, and they claim that one serving will boost your energy, support immunity, and improve your gastrointestinal function.

Are They Healthy?

You’re more likely to receive the beneficial nutrients from whole foods, as most of the fibre and Vitamin C is lost in the production process. EVen still, you can boost the number of vitamins and minerals you absorb with a scoop of the green powder.

Are They Worth It?

We say yes. They contain prebiotics which can increase your good bacteria and keep the bad bacteria out, and it can help with constipation as well.

It’s hard to know how much of the nutrients added to supplements are absorbed into our system but they won’t harm you. You need to check to make sure there are no heavy metals or contaminants, so check for third party tests.

To get the most out of your workout, it’s important to take care of your body and muscles. Sweating can lead to loss of electrolytes and ultimately cause dehydration if we’re not careful, and sometimes water just won’t cut it. Drinks like Gatorade are designed to help replenish the nutrients we lose, but they’re also often filled with chemical dyes and sweeteners, so the benefits they provide also come at a cost. We have a few go-to drinks for after we work out, and these are the ones we find most effective:

Coconut Water

Coconut water is high in minerals like potassium and magnesium, so it’s a great choice if you’re looking to replenish electrolytes. It does contain a bit of natural sugar, but much less than many commercial sports drinks, so you can rehydrate without a crash later on.

Smoothies

The best part of smoothies is that you can add whatever you like. Fruits and veggies are full of vitamins and minerals and added protein powder can help keep you full for longer. Add a little nut butter to help your body absorb all of the fat-soluble vitamins and you’ve got yourself a highly nutritious drink.

Nuts are one of the most common smoothie ingredients, but you should tread lightly before adding them to yours. Almonds, pecans, walnuts, and other types of nuts can do wonders for your smoothies, but here are three things you should keep in mind about them.

Blending Nuts

You might struggle to blend raw nuts with a classic blender. If your blender isn’t powerful enough, raw nuts might damage the blades so it’s important to soak or skin them before blending them. Also, keep in mind you’ll have to pulse several times before the nuts are fully chopped.

Extra Fat

Adding carbs and protein to your smoothies is easy, but fat is a different story. By adding nuts to the mix, you’re making sure your smoothies contain enough fat to keep you full for long, but don’t go overboard because nuts are also packed with tons of calories.

Nut Substitutes

If you don’t have a powerful blender and soaking your nuts feels like too much trouble, you can replace them with several substitutes. Nut butters are always a great idea, but be careful before buying them and make sure they don’t contain added oils, sodium, and sugar when checking their label.

In addition to being super-healthy, smoothies are incredibly quick and easy to make, but that doesn’t mean they’ll taste perfect every time. If your smoothie is missing something to taste as amazing as you want it to be, use these hacks to improve it without compromising its healthy properties.

Make It Creamy

You’ll need to have the perfect balance between liquid and solid ingredients to make your smoothies perfectly creamy. Ice cream and yogurt can get the job done, but you should avoid them at all costs. Opt for avocados instead, but use them in moderation due to their high-fat content.

Make It Sweet

Fruits will do a great job adding their natural sweetness to smoothies, but what if it’s too much or not enough? Lemon juice can be used to make your smoothies less sweet. When it comes to adding sweetness, avoid sugar and opt for natural sweeteners, but don’t go overboard.

Make It Thick

Smoothies that are too thick can be easily fixed with the addition of more liquids. On the other hand, if your smoothies lack thickness, don’t pour too much water or milk into the blender, and try to use frozen fruits whenever possible.

Smoothies are an amazing post-workout drink as long as they’re healthy and packed with nutrients. Protein-packed smoothies will help you recover and boost your energy levels after a workout, so here are a few easy ways to add more protein to your smoothies.

Nuts and Seeds

Pumpkin, chia, and sesame seeds, as well as almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and other nuts, are the best toppings for your smoothie because they are packed with protein.

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein, but it also has calcium and vitamin D, and it’ll give your smoothies a nice creamy texture.

Tofu

Tofu is a staple in the vegan diet because it’s packed with protein, but this soybean product is not only for vegans. Even though it sounds strange, adding tofu to smoothies is a great way to boost your protein intake and make this beverage creamy.

Oats

Throw 1/4 cup of rolled oats into your blender to add 5 grams of protein to your smoothies.

Nut Butter

Peanut butter, almond, and cashew butter are all packed with protein and they are an excellent addition to smoothies because they will add more flavor and creaminess to this drink.
