Soccer is not just one of the most popular sports around the world but is also a great way to workout muscles all over your body.  Rather than slaving away at the gym, you can tone, develop, and maintain your whole body as part of a team. Here is a guide to the variety of muscles you can expect to workout while playing soccer.

Leg Muscles

It goes without saying that soccer is a great way of developing your legs. Not only does running and sprinting engage several of your leg muscles but kicking and jumping use your whole lower body to propel your legs forwards.

Arms Neck and Shoulders

What’s not quite so obvious is that soccer also works out your triceps, biceps, and shoulders. Keeping your balance and posture when on the ball, taking throw-ins, or heading the ball requires good upper body strength and strong neck muscles.

Glute and Hip Muscles

Glute and hip muscles are also essential to gaining sufficient speed to beat your opponent to the ball or launch it up the pitch.

Core

And finally, soccer is an excellent way to strengthen and develop your core. Your core muscles are required to perform almost every movement in soccer. These include the rectus abdominis (six-pack), the lower back muscles, and the internal and external obliques.
