Exercises to Help Improve Your Balance

Balance and stability exercises should be the foundation of your workout routine. They’ll activate and strengthen your body’s core stabilizing muscles which will improve coordination, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance physical performance. Here are four exercises that can help get you strengthening those core foundations.

Single Leg Squats

This is like an ordinary squat, but this time you have to balance on one leg. Put your hands on your hips and raise one leg gently from the floor as you push through the heel of your bent leg. Keep your chest up and feel those core muscles working.

Single Leg Jump Squats

Start from a loaded squat position and then jump up on one leg before softly landing on it and gently bending the knee. Keep your chest up and make sure your knee is in line with your ankle.

Speed Skaters

For this exercise, you jump from one foot to the other like you’re on a pair of skis. Hop off from one foot before landing on the other, gently bending your knee to engage your core.

Single Leg Deadlift

Start in an upright position before lifting one leg out straight behind you while extending both arms out to the ground before returning to the upright starting position.
