Gyms are Reopening, Here’s How to Stay Safe

States have been slowly easing restrictions and many gyms across the country are starting to reopen, but they’ll look different than they did before the pandemic. Gyms are opening up and taking precautions to limit the spread of the coronavirus. This includes limiting class sizes, changing the setup of machines, spacing out lockers and showers, and becoming stricter with cleaning the equipment. Here are some additional steps you can take if you’re ready to head back to the gym.

Wear a Face Mask

Make sure you bring a face mask and wear it when you check-in at the gym or wherever social distancing isn’t properly carried out.

Bring a Towel and Mat

When possible, bring your own towel and mat as many gym won’t be offering these when they open and if they do, it’s better to use your own, which is cleaner.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Although it sounds counter-intuitive, wear clothes you are comfortable working out in as this will avoid you touching and adjusting your clothes and spreading germs.

Put Your Phone Away

Avoid bringing your phone to the gym all together or store it in your locker because it’s a breeding ground for germs.

Limit Equipment Use

One of the main reasons for going back to the gym is the sheer amount of machines and weights available, but try and limit how many machines you’re using and always clean them before and after you use them.

Check Social Media

Before heading back to the gym, take a look on Facebook and Instagram to see if the gym is actually taking social distancing seriously and cleaning the equipment. If you see photos of gym goers packed together in a small space, it’s not a good sign.
