Here’s What You Should Know About Bulking

Many people think of bulking as something reserved for gym rats and bodybuilders, but it can be useful for any fitness journey. Bulking involves increasing body weight and muscle mass by increasing your caloric intake and frequently strength training. It’s common to start bulking to reach a specific weight for a sport or to build a booty. Here’s everything you should know about bulking so you can decide if it’s right for you.

How Bulking Works

To create muscle, you need to be in an anabolic state which means that the body has enough fuel and energy to build and repair. When you consume more calories you’re also taking in more nutrients that play a role in the muscle-building process. To turn the calories into muscle mass, you need to strength train.

How Long Does it Take to Bulk Up?

The amount of time it takes to bulk up varies from person to person. If you’re new to strength training, you may notice the changes quicker than someone who’s been working out for a while. For most people, a bulking period lasts around three months which is why it’s important to eat and train consistently to gain muscle and to lift heavier weights.

What Does a Bulking Diet Look Like?

The first step when bulking is to look at your nutrition as you’ll need to be at a caloric surplus. Start by eating until you’re full at every meal and if you’ve finished your meal and are still a bit hungry, eat more. You can also add one more serving to your meals.

🔥 FALL IN LOVE WITH BEING A BETTER YOU 🔥 . . 🍚🥦🐔 Supposed to be 9.5 weeks out from @icn_nsw Nationals…so here's me trying to eat as healthy as I can now waiting for the final decision of my coach about competing or not. Due to my injury I'm not working/training hard atm so sticking to roughly 4k cals (1k less than usual) across 4 meals to compensate the reduced energy expenditure. Floating around the 88-89kg mark and still showing a six pack and obliques when I flex which is good. ➖ What's your approach to nutrition? Calories can regulate how you look in the mirror, but macros will regulate how you feel 👌. Everybody can be lazy at some point, I've been a lot of times too but honestly never when I really needed. That is only because I've been dieting and training for a pretty long time now and if I want I can control what I put in my mouth. You can too. 💪 If you feel you developed bad habits with food, try to begin with a single step from tomorrow, and try changing all your meals with healthy stuff. Can be as simple as scrumbled eggs with cherry tomatoes and a slice of bread for brekky, a healthy smoothie, or a mix salad with salmon/grilled chicken and avocado for lunch, do it once and see how you feel at the end of the day. Soon as you start feeling better cause you fuelled your body properly, your decision making will be better too and will help you making better decisions the next day!! Love your body 💞…your future self will thank you. . .
