After lifting heavy weights, going for a long run, or doing HIIT workouts, you can expect to feel sore. While it’s a reality, what’s not fun is waking up and feeling achy. In addition to exercise, what you do during the day can also make you feel sore. Luckily, there are steps you can take to prevent waking up and feeling sore. Here are five tips to reduce morning soreness.

Use the Right Pillow

Everyone has a different sleeping style, which affects the pillow they should use. In general, your pillow should support the natural curve of your neck and align your head, neck, and spine when you’re lying down.

Be More Active

While exercise can making you feel sore, it also keeps your joints lubricated and your muscles strong, making your body feel better. Try and move more throughout the day, especially if you have a sedentary job.

Meditate or Stretch Before Bed

Mediating or stretching before bed helps your mind and body stay relaxed while you sleep.

Eat Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Add more berries, vegetables, fatty fish, hot peppers, avocados, and nuts to your diet, which are packed with anti-inflammatory properties. Reduce the amount of refined carbs, sugar, and processed meats you eat.

Get More Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays a huge part in muscle health, so aim to get between 10-15 minutes of sunlight a day and eat more fortified dairy, fatty fish, and egg yolks.
