Is it Okay to Work the Same Muscles Back to Back?

When we make our exercise schedules, many of us know not to work the same muscles on back to back days. But, how bad is it really to do squats or HIIT on consecutive days? In general, it’s fine to work out the same muscles on back to back says, as long as you’re not going into failure on these days. Here’s what you should know about doing the same workouts and training the same muscles on consecutive days.

Strength Training

Your muscles work hard during training and then they need a day or two to rebuild and recover. How quickly your muscles recover depends on your fitness level, how much you’re lifting, and how many reps you complete. For the average person, you shouldn’t train the same muscle groups more than twice a week, leaving 48 hours between each.

Cardio

For cardio, doing it multiple days in a row isn’t very risky. Just make sure to listen to your body if you feel weak or achy.

HIIT Training

High-Intensity Training (HIIT) is fine to do back to back as it’s not straining the muscles like strength training does. Just be aware not to overtrain as HIIT is a full-body workout and many muscles are used at once, which requires recovery.

Ab Workouts

Ab workouts are more about endurance than strength, so it’s fine to do these daily. Just mix things up with different ab exercises each day.
