An intense workout can feel amazing, but it can also leave your body feeling rather parched! It is always important to drink water after exercising—especially if you’ve broken a sweat.

If you’re a fan of H2O (and we hope you are), you’re probably quite familiar with the taste. So you may have noticed that the liquid tastes a tad different after working out. The first sip of water post-exercise is always blissful, but you may find that it tastes a little sweeter, too.

In case you thought you were imagining it—don’t worry, you aren’t.

According to science, water really does taste sweeter after a strenuous workout. Researchers have found that the intensity and sensitivity to sweetness increases after severe exercise.

Another possible reason has to do with your body entering ketosis. Performing aerobics for an hour and 45 minutes can place your body in a metabolic state where it burns fat for energy due to a lack of carbohydrates.

As the body breakdowns ketones for energy, it can result in sweeter breath which could affect the flavor of water.

Taste aside, it is essential to rehydrate your body after working out, so get sipping!

Bloating can happen to all of us. It’s nothing to worry about, but it can feel uncomfortable. Instead of reaching for medications, start eating foods that can help with bloating.

It’s important to be aware of what actually makes you feel bloated in the first place. If it’s dairy or broccoli then it’s best to avoid those and find another food that can help you to feel better. You can also bloat after over-consuming salt and under-consuming potassium, so if you tend to eat a lot of restaurant meals with hidden salt you will also feel bloated. Drinking lots of water is the first step to de-bloating and so is eating one of these three foods.

Ginger

The anti-inflammatory properties in ginger work amazing for bloating and gas. It contains a digestive enzyme that helps the body break down protein and has a soothing quality on the entire digestive system. Enjoy ginger tea before or after a meal to help with digestion and bloating.

Avocado

Avocados are high in healthy fats, potassium, and antioxidants, and they break down fiber and reduce bile acids helping you to de-bloat. Eat half an avocado in a salad or on some toast for a healthy breakfast.

White Beans

Whilst most beans actually tend to bloat you, white beans have high levels of potassium that can help to balance out the sodium level in your body. They’re also high in fiber so they will improve digestion and give you regular bowel movements. Enjoy them in soups with lots of vegetables for a tasty protein-packed lunch.

Hot or Cold? Room temperature? Is there a “right” way to drink water? Drinking water is the key to so many crucial bodily functions, so of course you’ll want to make sure your body can absorb it as much as possible. Staying properly hydrated is essential for both physical and mental health, but despite its many benefits, the reality is that not everyone enjoys drinking plain water. If you find water boring or unpleasant, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there are other ways to quench your thirst and ensure your body gets the hydration it needs. Read on for some ideas to help you stay hydrated without relying on plain water alone.

Infused Water

Water’s lack of taste makes it a great blank canvas for making flavored water infusions. Try adding slices of citrus fruits, berries, cucumber, or herbs to a pitcher of water and let it infuse overnight. In the morning, you’ll have a delicious and refreshing beverage that tastes anything but boring. Experiment with different combinations to find one you enjoy.

Herbal Teas

If the idea of sipping a hot beverage doesn’t appeal to you, let yours chill in the fridge until it’s cold to create a hydrating and flavorful iced tea. Herbal teas come in a wide range of varieties like peppermint, chamomile, and even fruit-flavored blends, so don’t be afraid to try different kinds. You can purchase pre-packaged options from the store or even brew your own herbal tea with fresh herbs.

Hydrating Foods

Hydration doesn’t always have to come from beverages alone—certain fruits and vegetables have high water content and are a great option to help keep you hydrated throughout the day. Watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, oranges, and grapefruits are especially hydrating, so try incorporating them into your diet as snacks, by adding them to salads, or blending them into smoothies.

Completing a workout can be both physically and mentally exhausting, so it’s important to properly refuel your body with the right foods. Eating the right foods after a workout can help rebuild muscles and replenish energy stores, ultimately leading to a quicker recovery time and a stronger body. Here are the kinds of foods you should be eating after working out.

Protein

One great option for post-workout fuel is protein. Foods high in protein, such as chicken, eggs, and Greek yogurt, can help repair and rebuild muscles. Additionally, carbohydrates can help replenish energy stores that were depleted during the workout. Opt for complex carbohydrates like sweet potatoes or quinoa for sustained energy.

Hydration

Another important nutrient to consider is hydration. Water is crucial for keeping the body functioning properly, and after a workout, it’s especially important to replenish any fluids lost through sweat. Adding a pinch of salt to your water can also help restore electrolyte balance.

Antioxidants

Finally, don’t forget about the importance of antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables like berries, spinach, and kale are rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and aid in recovery. They’re also usually a lot lighter and easy to consume when you’re less in the mood for a big meal.

Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining good health, but hydration challenges may not be the best way to achieve this goal. While these challenges may seem like a fun and harmless way to encourage drinking more water, they can actually be dangerous and lead to serious health issues.

One popular hydration challenge involves drinking a gallon of water in a day. It’s important to remember that every person’s hydration needs are different, and for some people, a gallon per day is more than their bodies really need. Drinking too much water can lead to overhydration, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, headaches, and even seizures.

So, what is the proper way to hydrate? The best way to ensure you are properly hydrated is to take small sips of water throughout the day, whenever you feel thirsty. It’s also important to pay attention to your body’s signals, such as whether your lips are chapped and the color of your urine. If your pee is pale yellow, you’re most likely sufficiently hydrated. If it’s dark yellow, it’s time to drink more water.

Another way to stay hydrated is to eat foods with high water content, such as watermelon, cucumbers, and tomatoes. These fruits and veggies are not only delicious but are also great sources of hydration.

Do you ever feel dehydrated, even though you drank a ton of water that day? This is a common issue, as sometimes our bodies have trouble absorbing plain water. Adding just a pinch of sea salt to your water could help solve this problem! You might be hesitant to add salt to your water, but trust us, if you just put in a pinch, you won’t even taste it.

Sports Drinks Add Salt for a Reason!

If you look at any sports drink, you’ll see that it’s loaded with salt. The reason is that salt helps to hydrate your body by helping it absorb minerals and water! The electrolytes that these drinks give you often are a result of the added salt!

Salt is High in Minerals

If you select high-quality sea salt (instead of regular table salt), you get added minerals from the salt itself. There can be around 80 different minerals in salt, which all are super useful for the body!

Salt Prevents Cramping

When our body is lacking important minerals, the muscles can constrict. This causes a cramping sensation or muscle soreness. By adding salt to your water, the body has a higher capacity to relax its muscles.

It can be tough to stay hydrated in the winter. That’s because when it’s cold outside, a big glass of cold water just isn’t very appealing. Plus, when we’re not feeling hot and thirsty, it can be hard to remember we need to drink!

However, with the dry air from indoor heating and prevalence of coughs and colds in winter, it’s super important to get enough water to maintain optimal health. Here are our top tips for keeping hydrated in the colder months. Drink up!

Drink Hot Drinks

If you don’t fancy cold drinks, try hot ones instead. Herbal tea, hot water with lemon, or savory broths are all great hydrators and will keep you feeling cozy. Just don’t rely solely on black tea and coffee for your liquid intake or you might face a caffeine overload!

Carry Your Water Bottle

Even in winter, carry your water bottle with you at all times to encourage yourself to drink throughout the day. You won’t want to schlep a full, heavy bottle around all day, which means it’s great motivation to drink up and lighten your load!

Set Alarms

If you are getting to the end of the day and realizing you haven’t been drinking, it’s time to set some alarms. Set alarms on your phone every couple of hours with notes reminding you to drink. Keep these on for a few weeks until drinking water regularly becomes embedded into your routine.

In general terms you want the gut to perform at its best, especially if you have any digestive issues, such as IBS or SIBO. Scientifically, the term ‘healing the gut’ doesn’t exist but there are things you can do to keep the gut healthy.

Regular Exercise

Staying active is one of the best things you can do for your gut. It’ll improve motility in the stomach and small intestine, and you will less likely develop bloating or constipation.

Let’s be real, most mornings it’s so hard to get out of bed. If you’re like most people in the world, you probably rely on your morning coffee to officially wake you up from your deep slumber. The rush of caffeine feels like the perfect way to start your day. But what if there was a better way to sustain your energy throughout the day?

Most people go straight to the coffee machine (or Starbucks!) before even thinking about breakfast…or anything else for that matter. While we totally get that, it might actually be hurting you more than it’s helping. Studies have shown that having coffee on an empty stomach could actually interfere with your cortisol levels, leaving you even more fatigued by the end of the day. The best way to combat this issue is to have a balanced breakfast and wait at least an hour before reaching for the caffeine.

We also wake up super dehydrated and coffee just dehydrates us more! It is highly recommended to drink water immediately after waking up, so you should try to for that before the morning coffee.

Despite how hard it might be to replace the habit of immediately getting your caffeine fix in the morning, drinking water and eating a full breakfast before drinking your coffee will leave you feeling better and more energized throughout the entire day!

Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining good health, but hydration challenges may not be the best way to achieve this goal. While these challenges may seem like a fun and harmless way to encourage drinking more water, they can actually be dangerous and lead to serious health issues.

Healing the gut has become a really popular topic in the health and wellness sphere and on social media. But what does it actually mean to have a healthy gut? In general terms you want the gut to perform at its best, especially if you have any digestive issues, such as IBS or SIBO. Scientifically, the term ‘healing the gut’ doesn’t exist but there are things you can do to keep the gut healthy.

Regular Exercise

Staying active is one of the best things you can do for your gut. It’ll improve motility in the stomach and small intestine, and you will less likely develop bloating or constipation.

Drink Water

Hydration is really importation for gut health, especially in the digestive system as it improves nutrient absorption and waste removal. Make sure to drink about 8 glasses of water throughout the day to keep you regular.

Limit Processed Foods

Limit foods that are high in refined sugar that may trigger bloating or inflammation in the gut. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients.

Eat Lots of Fiber
