Top Tips for Exercising in a Hot Country

Whether you’re on vacation, in the middle of a heat wave or live in a hot country, sticking to your fitness routine when it’s sweltering outside can be tough. Plus, if you’re not sensible then you can end up suffering with a condition like heat stroke or dehydration. Follow these top tips for exercising in hot weather.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Hydration is essential when exercising in hot weather. Always make sure you have plenty of water, and drink a sports drink after your session to replenish your electrolytes.

Timing is Everything

In very hot weather, only exercise outside before 10am or after around 5pm. The temperature and UV index will be lower. Most people prefer to exercise early in the morning to kickstart the day.

Water is Your Friend

Why not take up a water sport such as surfing, swimming or stand-up paddleboarding? These are great forms of exercise that allow you to cool off in the waves! Always remember to use a waterproof sunscreen.

Stay Inside

There’s no shame in staying inside. You don’t need to make the most of sunny weather all the time – it’s very sensible to do your workout in the cool of the gym or your home if possible.

Don’t Overdo It

It’s very important to know your limits when exercising in the heat because overdoing it can be dangerous. Listen to your body, and make sure to take plenty of rest breaks and lower the intensity of your workout if necessary.
