When it comes to strength training, it’s common to make mistakes, many of which you’re probably not aware of. No matter how good your intentions are, sometimes you’re doing something wrong without even realizing it, and here are some of the most common strength training mistakes to avoid.

Too Heavy Weights

You may be impatient to increase the weight you’re lifting, but heavy weights can injure you and that’s not a way to get stronger. Challenging yourself is good, but make sure to do it gradually. As you get stronger you’ll be able to lift heavier weights and improve over time.

Not Perfecting Movements

Proper movements are more important than adding weight, so always be sure you’ve mastered the move before adding weight to exercises like squats or lunges. It may be difficult to do this on your own so getting a trainer to help you at first is a good idea.

Not Focusing on the Workout

When you’re doing hundreds of repetitions it’s easy to let something distract your brain, but this is a common trap that will make you break form and technique, which can quickly lead to injuries. Focus on your movements to make sure you’re doing them properly.
