Be Honest With Your Workout Buddy

Do you have a workout buddy who you feel is bringing you down? It may be time to cut ties with them. Getting a workout buddy isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Heck, it can be hard to even admit to yourself that you need a workout buddy at all, let alone track down one who’s willing and able to do the job. However, if they’re slowing you down, sometimes it’s important to be honest with them.

This Isn’t Playtime

It’s common to find a workout buddy who’s a close friend, but this can become a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you feel comfortable and close with them, but on the other hand, you’re so comfortable with them that you don’t feel like you can be serious when it comes to things you care about—such as following through on your workout goals. Your workout “buddy” needs to learn that this isn’t playtime or hangout hour, but a serious venture you’re looking to achieve.

Respect

Another reason that it can be so hard to be honest with workout buddies is that we’re afraid that they’ll think we’re blaming or attacking them. However, your friend needs to be mature and realize that your goals are bigger than petty drama. If they respect you, which they probably do, they’ll understand your agenda and adjust their mindset accordingly so that you’re both on the same page.
