The Legend of Oak Island continued to entice many treasure hunters throughout the years.

In 1959, Robert Restall came with his 18-year-old son and his work partner and friend Karle Graeser after signing a contract with one of the property owners on the island.

Working at the site for several years, in 1965 they dug a shaft down to the depth of 27 feet (8.2 m). On August 17, Robert Restall, who explored the shaft alone, was overcome by hydrogen sulfide fumes. His son went in after him, and also lost consciousness. Graeser and two additional working hands then went in, in an attempt to save the two.

Tragically, Restall, his son, Graeser and one of the working hands all perished in the shaft - a somber reminder that treasure hunting isn't just a fun adventure, but also full of risks and danger.

But it seems that in recent years, another family has made some serious headway in finding the Secret of Oak Island.
