When it comes to getting in shape and staying in shape, we can sometimes do well to take a cue from the experts: athletes who need to be in tip-top shape at all times. Whether you look up to basketball stars or just want to go longer during pickup games, here’s a great workout that resembles the one done by NBA players to stay in shape! This workout comes from Gunnar Peterson, a strength coach and trainer for the Los Angeles Lakers.

This workout, like any professional athlete needs to do, is full-body and works out your muscles and your heart with cardio. Not only that, basketball players need to be able to move swiftly and easily–so this circuitous workout also helps improve your range of motion! You’ll do a number of moves which we’ll detail below, and for each, you’ll do two to three sets based on your energy and fitness levels.

You can google each of these moves to help you see how to do them properly. Always remember to hydrate and to listen to your body so as not to overwork it! Here’s the workout in order:

  1. 8-10 reps of split-stance sprinters
  2. 6-8 reps of jumps to pull-up
  3. 8-10 rotational club chops
  4. 8-10 side steps to pull-downs
  5. 8-10 rollouts
  6. 8-10 cable resisted sprints
  7. 8-10 ball handle lunges
